/She goes by one name.../

/Those cunning folk use any means.../
Slytherin

/Her ancestry.../
Pureblood

/Enter the raven.../
Raven is usually considered to be quite attractive, with long, straight black hair, pale skin, and striking green eyes. She's of average height, a little bit on the tall side, and her build is rather slender. She very seldom wears any make-up, beyond a little powder here and there and the occasional pale pink lipstick. When not in uniform, she's usually seen wearing things that are fashionable, but also elegant and classy.

/Cool. Intelligent. Elegant./
To put it simply, Raven doesn't trust easily. Because she doesn't trust people easily, it takes a while for anyone to be her friend. When meeting people for the first time, Raven will usually talk to them and may venture into the occasional sarcastic comment, but as long as they stay on her good side, she won't do anything more than that. It's once people get on her bad side that they need to watch out. Raven will not fight anyone upfront if she doesn't have to. Instead, she will be sneaky and manipulative, and play games with them for her own enjoyment.

Raven fancies herself as a bit of an anti-hero. Despite being a Slytherin, she does have a certain amount of morals. She doesn't really join in the bullying of Muggle-borns or the whole Slytherin vs. Gryffindor conflict. She judges people on their own merit, despite House and blood purity. Most of the people who do get on her bad side are arrogant bullies, and she rather enjoys putting them in their places. She has a soft spot for the helpless, but don't point that out to her face.

Once you become someone she can consider a friend, she will do almost anything for you. Raven cares very much about the few friends she has, and treats the enemies of her friends like her own enemies, within reason of course. She is also intelligent and calculating, with a certain disregard for rules. It's not that Raven goes out of her way to break the rules. She will follow them, but not if they stand in the way of something she wants to do or something she feels is necessary.

/Ravens in her blood.../
Houses usually run in families, and Raven's family is no exception. Raven, however, happened to be the exception to the rule. Almost every member of her family has been a Ravenclaw, and passed school with flying colors. For a while, Raven dreamed about being in Ravenclaw house just like them, looking up to her two older sisters and one older brother. That was, of course, until her mother died.

Her siblings were in Hogwarts that night. One of her sisters was in her sixth year, the other in her fourth, and her brother had just graduated and was starting his job. She was nine years old that night, and she was waiting in her room for her brother to come home. She remembers hearing a crash downstairs and going down to investigate. The noises were coming from the kitchen, and she entered it.

She still has nightmares about the scene that she saw that day. Her mother on the floor bleeding; her father holding a wand. There was more blood than she had seen in her life. She backed up, about to run out of the house as her father moved towards her, whether to explain or to attack, she never knew. She was nearly out of the house when her brother Apparated in front of her. He took one look at the scene and pulled out his wand, pushing Raven behind him. The moments that followed passed like a blur to the frightened girl, but after that day, her brother became her guardian and the head of the family. No one knew what had happened to her father.

Whether or not Raven's father had actually been the murderer seemed irrelevant. After that, Raven became withdrawn for a while, and less talkative. When her siblings finally coerced her into speech again, she wasn't the same cheerful, happy child that she had been before. It was as if her personality had almost completely changed, and that carried over to the time she was ready to go to Hogwarts.

When the Sorting Hat touched her head, she still remembered seeing her sister sitting at the Ravenclaw table, waiting for her. Her sister's words still echoed in her mind. "I'll save you a seat." She felt the hat slip over her head, listened to its voice in her ear, deliberating.

And the hat screamed "SLYTHERIN!".

/Tools of the trade.../
Her wand is ebony and unicorn hair, 12 1/4 inches long, and sturdy. She has an owl named Cirrus.

Raven Elizabeth Silverflame

/She goes by one name.../
Raven E. Silverflame

/Those cunning folk use any means.../
Slytherin

/Her ancestry.../
Pureblood

/Enter the raven.../
Raven's complexion is fair to the point of almost being pale, and this, coupled with her long, straight black hair can make her seem just a little bit ghostly. Her eyes are bright green, and are her defining feature, standing out from the black and white of the rest of her appearance. Her build is slender, and she stands at average height, if a little bit on the tall side. Her curves are rather small. They are there--she isn't flat as a board or anything like that--but they aren't too noticeable. She has a small chest as well.

She doesn't get as much sleep as she should, and because of this, she has dark circles underneath her eyes from the sleep debt she has accumulated over seven years. She doesn't wear much make-up, beyond special occasions and the occasional lip color and powder here and there if necessary. Her features are rather soft and delicate, and if she smiled more often and didn't glare at people so much, perhaps she would have looked friendly. She has long, slender fingers, and the kind of hands that most people would associate with a pianist.

Raven's figure itself isn't very soft. She plays Quidditch, and enjoys the activity, so her build is lean and agile underneath the slight feminine curves. She seems more built for speed than strength, though, and although she can move quickly, she doesn't have too much power behind her movements. As a result, she usually says that she can play any Quidditch position except Beater, which she is terrible at. She usually wears her hair down, except when she's playing Quidditch, which is when she'll braid it from the nape of her neck.

Contrary to popular belief, Raven does care a lot about her appearance, especially her hair. She spends a lot of time brushing her hair out and caring for it, so if you see her with messy or stringy hair, you know that she's either been having a really bad day or isn't feeling too well. Another thing Raven cares about are the clothes that she wears. She does her best to make herself look presentable, choosing clothes that she thinks have a certain level of class. She tends towards darker colors, and stays away from bright shades like orange and pink. It's said that she looks best in green, and one of her sisters once joked that the Sorting Hat took that into consideration when choosing her House.

/Cool. Intelligent. Afraid./
Raven doesn't trust people easily because of what happened to her as a child. In the back of her mind, Raven feels that if her own father could betray her, then anyone can. Because of this, it takes a while for anyone to become her friend. When meeting people for the first time, Raven will usually talk to them and may venture into the occasional sarcastic comment, but as long as they stay on her good side she won't do anything more than that. It's once people get on her bad side that they need to watch out. Raven will not fight anyone upfront if she doesn't have to. Instead she will be sneaky and manipulative, and play games with them for her own enjoyment.

Despite being a Slytherin, she does have a certain amount of morals. She doesn't really join in the bullying of Muggle-borns or the whole Slytherin vs. Gryffindor conflict. She judges people on their own merit despite House and blood purity. Most of the people who do get on her bad side are arrogant bullies, and she rather enjoys putting them in their places. She has a soft spot for the helpless, but don't point that out to her face. However, because she is in Slytherin House, Raven is not too vocal about these views. She won't usually talk to a Muggle-born in public, or at least in an area where other Slytherins can see her.

She is quite aware of the fact that if the members of her House knew her actual viewpoints and feelings, they would consider her a blood traitor and that wouldn't be good for her. Because of this, she feels like she has done a good job in staying under the radar for her five years at Hogwarts--not actively harassing Muggle-borns, Gryffindors, and Hufflepuffs, but at the same time not publicly consorting with Muggle-borns and not publicly expressing any support for them or opposing her Housemates actions.

She takes a while to consider anyone a friend, because of her issues with trust. She can honestly say that she has not made a friend yet in all her years at Hogwarts. However, once you become someone she can consider a friend she will do almost anything for you.

She dislikes getting in trouble, though, partly because of the reception she would get from her Ravenclaw siblings when she gets home and partly because of the fact that her Housemates would probably jinx her into oblivion the moment her back is turned if she caused a significant drop in their House points.

Raven has never had a boyfriend. This has roots in her issues with trust as well. She isn't swayed by flirting, and for anyone to get that close to her they need to be her friend first. She gets rather nervous when touched in any manner, and because of this, usually avoids crowds. She likes sitting in the middle of a crowd sometimes and just listening to the conversation, however she is hardly an active participant, and needs a certain amount of peace and quiet each day.

Raven is not brave--at least, not without limits. She's perfectly fine with risking her life if she believes in the cause, however, she's a little apprehensive when it comes to risking her reputation or her education. As such, even if she does believe in what she's fighting for, she will sometimes keep any involvement she has in these things under the table. She's very secretive about these things, and only lets her friends know what's really on her mind. Even then, she might not tell her friends everything, only more than most people. If she doesn't believe in the cause, she probably won't participate, and if she has no choice or is on the fence about the issue, she might help, but leave the moment she has a chance.

When it comes to classes, Raven's favorites are Potions, Ancient Runes, and Defense Against the Dark Arts. Yes, she takes, enjoys, and is actually good at Defense Against the Dark Arts. She likes the fact that what she learns has a great deal of practical applications, although she would really rather hide in the background than fight on the front lines.

She and her parents were close. She was the baby of the family, so while her older siblings were studying at Hogwarts, she was given special treatment. She was especially close to her father. She tagged along with him constantly, asking him questions and joining him in little projects or small trips. It had been her father that had taken her on a camping trip for the first time, and her father that had first taught her how to fly a broom. Her sisters teased her constantly about this, calling her "daddy's little girl".

She was standing in the door frame when there was a burst of green light. She saw her father holding up his wand, saw her mother fall to the ground. She backed up, about to run out of the house as her father moved towards her, whether to explain or to attack, she never knew. She was nearly out of the house when her brother Apparated in front of her. He took one look at the scene and pulled out his wand, casting one spell towards her father before taking Raven away by Side-Along Apparition. Since that day, her brother became her guardian and the head of the family by default.

She still remembers that day. Her Sorting took a while, longer than some of the other students, and in that time, she remembers fervently asking the hat to put her in Ravenclaw, where everyone else had been. Then the hat asked her a question. It asked her what she wanted to do. To this day, she still remembers her answer.

"I want to kill him."

The next thing she knew, the hat screamed "SLYTHERIN!".

In the end, it had been the fear and hatred she had for her father since that day that had changed her personality. Where she was once quiet and curious, she became deceitful, spiteful, and manipulative. It was in her first year in Slytherin that she learned about the prejudice against Muggle-borns. She wanted to fit in so badly that she believed everything her classmates told her about "Mudbloods" and joined in the harassment. She made friends with a girl in her year--Liliana.

Liliana came from a very influential pureblood family, and she was determined to teach her slightly younger roommate everything she knew. She took Raven under her wing, and together, the two of them wreaked havoc on all the filthy Mudbloods in their year and younger for the first two years at school. Raven didn't really understand why she was doing what she did. She was angry, and since she was at Slytherin, they were a perfect, acceptable target for her to vent on. She couldn't think of anything that she didn't do. Her sister, Faye, was still in Hogwarts during that time, and pulled Raven aside many times to talk to her about her behavior. Raven didn't listen, nor did she particularly care.

One day, in the middle of her third year, Liliana told Raven about a little bit of fun they would be having later that night with a Mudblood Hufflepuff first year. Raven, as usual, agreed, but for some reason--she couldn't put her finger on what it was--something about this didn't feel right. She arrived at the designated location, and stopped at the door. There were four students there aside from Liliana, all Slytherins. She recognized them from her second and third years, and they were all attacking the Muggle-born girl. Raven stood outside at the door and didn't enter the room. She couldn't go inside, but at the same time, she couldn't look away. She was struck by how the first year girl looked so...small. So helpless.

The girl looked towards the door, and Raven thought that she was looking at her. Her eyes, Raven realized, were green, the same color that hers were, and they were wide and pleading. For a moment, Raven saw herself in that girl. For a moment, she was the nine-year-old standing in the door again, watching as the man she believed in, trusted, loved betrayed her. She had never felt more like her father than in that moment, and she hated herself for it. Raven closed the door and walked away. She learned the next day that the girl was sent to the hospital wing, and had not been able to identify her attackers.

But Raven could. She lay awake that night, listening to Liliana's quiet breathing from the bed next to her, and that night, at thirteen years old, she made her decision. She remembered holding her wand that night--ebony and unicorn hair, twelve-and-a-quarter inches--staring at her hand and wondering if she was destined to become like him. She remembered looking at her wand and realizing for the first time that ebony was a Dark wood. Was she destined to become Dark too? No. She decided then that she would control her own destiny, and that no matter what, she would never become like him.

The next day, when Liliana was in Divination class, Raven went up to the Headmistress and told her exactly what happened. She even offered to allow the Headmistress to collect her memory of that day, for future evidence. The day after that, Liliana was expelled, and Raven was alone and friendless. She decided, as she walked into her common room alone that day, that she was alright with that. She would rather be alone and friendless than become someone that she would always hate. The day after that, flowers and a box of Chocolate Frogs appeared at the Muggle-born girl's bedside. No note. No card.

Since that day, Raven's been keeping a low-profile in Slytherin House, while doing the things that she can in secret.

Raven's complexion is fair to the point of almost being pale, and this, coupled with her long dark hair can make her seem just a little bit ghostly. Her hair falls just below her shoulder blades and is wavy and brown. Her eyes are deep brown and tend to be rather difficult to read. Unless something actually shakes her to her core, it's hard to tell what she's feeling just based on her eyes. Her build is slender, and she stands at average height, if a little bit on the tall side. With regards to her...er...feminine features (i.e. her chest), they are enough to identify her as female but not enough to make her stand out.

She doesn't get as much sleep as she should, and because of this, she has dark circles underneath her eyes from the sleep debt she has accumulated over seven years. She doesn't wear much make-up, beyond special occasions and the occasional lip color and powder here and there if necessary. However, when it comes to clothes she will take practicality over appearance, for example, she won't wear high heels to anything but a formal event where she doesn't think she'll be doing much running. She tends towards darker colors, and stays away from bright shades like orange and pink. It's said that she looks best in green, and one of her sisters once joked that the Sorting Hat took that into consideration when choosing her House.

/Coming out of her shell./
Raven doesn't trust people easily because of what happened to her as a child. In the back of her mind, Raven feels that if her own father could betray her, then anyone can. Because of this, it takes a while for her to consider anyone as a friend. When meeting people for the first time, Raven will usually talk to them and may venture into the occasional sarcastic comment, but as long as they stay on her good side she won't do anything more than that. It's once people get on her bad side that they need to watch out. Raven will not fight anyone upfront if she doesn't have to.

She's started to deviate from this a little and has started socializing with other people more. She's still sarcastic when speaking to them, and is still a loner and an introvert for the most part, however, she's learned that she doesn't have to do everything alone. Because of that, she's starting to open up to more people, although she still doesn't talk about her past to anyone. She's also gathered just a little more courage about expressing her views, however she still would not like to cause trouble or to make enemies.

Raven prides herself on being independent and because of this, will hesitate to ask for help even if she needs it and may feel embarrassed about accepting it when it is offered. If she really needs help and it's offered, though, she won't go as far as to refuse it. If she asks you for help though, it shows that you've either become one of her closer friends or that she's really in trouble.

Despite being a Slytherin, she does have a certain amount of morals. She doesn't really join in the bullying of Muggle-borns or the whole Slytherin vs. Gryffindor conflict. She judges people on their own merit despite House and blood purity. Most of the people who do get on her bad side are arrogant bullies. Raven cares very much about the few friends she has, and treats the enemies of her friends like her own enemies, within reason of course.

Raven is intelligent and doesn't always play by the rules. It's not that Raven goes out of her way to break the rules. She will follow them, but not if they stand in the way of something she wants to do or something she feels is necessary. For example, while she won't skip class or go out of her way to pass notes and be disruptive during classes, she will participate in things like an illegal camping trip in the Forbidden Forest if she finds the premise interesting enough. She dislikes getting in trouble though, partly because of the reception she would get from her Ravenclaw siblings when she gets home and partly because of the fact that her Housemates would probably jinx her into oblivion the moment her back is turned if she caused a significant drop in their House points.
