Title: Abigail Harrington
Description: Third Year Gryffindor

Abigail Harrington - October 26, 2009 03:13 PM (GMT)
Name: Abigail Jae Harrington
Age: 13
Birthday: May 20
Bloodline: Half-blood

Physical Appearance: Abigail Jae Harrington stands at 5’1” and weighs 102 pounds. She is thirteen, so in the middle of puberty – which she still isn’t sure whether she is happy about or not. Her childish appearance is beginning to disappear as her baby fat that gave her such pinchable cheeks (by her grandmother’s standards) leaves and her curves are just beginning to show. She has straight brown hair that falls to just below her shoulders and brown eyes. She tends to tan decently well, so in the summer (so long as it is a decently sunny summer), she’ll have darker skin than in the winter, although her skin always appears lighter than it actually is due to her dark hair.

Her style is typical for a girl her age. She likes jeans and she tends to layer long sleeved shirts and t-shirts. She likes scarves. She wears close-toed shoes: Converse in good weather, rain boots or snow boots in inclimate weather. She has a wool-lined, suede jacket that she loves and wears whenever it’s cool enough to do so. Leeds is far north enough that she is usually able to do so, and Hogwarts is even further North. She isn’t a fan of jewelry, although she does have a charm bracelet she wears on her right wrist. She has a charm on it for every new and exciting place she has ever been. Her ears are not pierced and she wears no other jewelry. Due to her upbringing, she prefers to wear muggle clothing, so while she wears her robes to classes, she will change into something more comfortable whenever she is allowed.

Personality: Abigail is a fun-loving girl. It was a quality instilled in her by her father. She likes games and will willingly play almost any game or sport so long as it promises a good time. She has yet, however, to play a game of Quidditch as she feels nervous with brooms (People were not made to be on such tiny pieces of wood so high up in the sky). She is not usually too studious either, which often lead to issues with finishing her homework right before class begins; although when it comes to Transfiguration and Care of Magical Creatures she is always going above and beyond the call of duty. She is not good with purely lecture-based classes, such as history, and tends to not pay attention. She is a big fan of the outdoors and tries to spend time outside everyday – except for when it’s raining. In her opinion, the best solution to a rainy night is hot chocolate and game night in front of the fire place. If the rain isn’t too cold, she might every once in a while get the urge to go dance in it, but she’ll be miserable until she’s dry when she finally goes back inside.

While she loves the use of magic, she does miss some of her technology she was forced to leave back home. She had an interesting time her first year getting used to using a library for research instead of the internet, not to mention the use of quill and parchment instead of a keyboard - or even a pencil or pen. She still gets ink stains all over her hands.

She is outgoing and usually good at making friends. She has no problem in starting up a conversation with a stranger and, in fact, will often times do so when bored.

Because her father can be quite absentminded and tends to not always think things through before acting, Abigail has learned how to keep herself and her thoughts organized. While she can be a spontaneous person at times, she prefers to think things through logically, which is what her mother does. As to whether she decides to go along with the ‘best option,’ however, is dependant on her mood. While she tends to respect authority and rules, she will, on occasion, toss them out the window; especially if she believes it’s worth it and/or will not get caught.

Character Background: Nate Harrington was born a wizard in a magical family in Sussex. He attended Hogwarts, as any good English wizard did, and fell in love with muggle studies. After graduating Hogwarts, he got a job in the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Department of the Ministry of Magic. He found their technology and instruments absolutely fascinating and wanted to learn more about muggles in general. To broaden his view he left his job at the Ministry and went to a muggle university in order to study anthropology and sociology.

Serah Jenkins was a pre-law student at Leeds when she met Nate Harrington, a post-grad in the sociology department who was working towards his Ph.D., at a party held by a mutual friend. She was a bit too serious, in his opinion. He was more than eccentric in hers. Just like in Physics, opposites attracted and, after getting over each other’s little quarks, they slipped into a serious relationship. When they both realized that this was leading to marriage, they accepted it and Nate bought an engagement ring, took her to his apartment for a nice dinner, and told her he was a wizard. He didn’t get a chance to show her the ring or properly propose because she smacked him for teasing her and not being serious enough. They fought for three weeks and their friends thought they wouldn’t make it through, but they did and were married six months later. Nate put his wand away and settled into a muggle lifestyle. After he attained his Ph.D. he picked up an empty post in the sociology department he had been working in and became a professor there. Serah went on to study at the Leeds School of Law and became a legal attorney. The year Nate gained tenure, Serah became pregnant and Abigail Jae was born May 20.

They didn’t mean to keep magic a secret from her, it just turned out that way. They lived a muggle lifestyle – one no different from any other family in their neighborhood. They had little to no contact with the wizarding world. She attended a public elementary school nearby and made friends there and played with them in a nearby park under the supervision of at least one of the children’s parents. It was when Abigail hit fifth grade and Serah began talking about secondary school that Nate remembered Hogwarts. There was a chance that Abigail would receive her letter the summer after sixth grade. The two adults decided to tell her about magic only if the letter came.
