Title: [G]James Stone

James Stone - February 18, 2010 04:14 AM (GMT)
Name:
    James Isaiah Stone
Age:
    16
Bloodline:
    Muggleborn
Physical Appearance:
James is a tall individual, standing at six-foot two. He is quite lean, swimming often to keep himself in shape, since it is one of the safest things for him to do by himself. He can also be found sometimes in his room doing push-ups and sit-ups.

He has black hair that is cut short, often requiring little to no effort to care for it in the morning. His hair appears fine, and is actually exactly as it appears. He sometimes runs his fingers through it when he is nervous or unsure, causing it to become slightly messier than it usually is. He rarely, if ever, has facial hair, not even being able to grow enough to warrant keeping it upon his face.

His eyes are nearly black, and always seem to focus upon a middle-distance. In the right lighting, a milky glaze could be seen in their depths, signifying his blindness to those that didn’t know already. His eyes didn’t show quite as much emotion as other people, since he had been born without his sight, but he made up for it with his facial features and vocal shifts.

He has pronounced cheekbones, standing stark against his lightly tanned skin, and a firm jaw. People have often said he looks as though he is amused all the time, his lips having become quirked in a slight smile. Even though he is completely blind, he is still quite the optimist and is quick to smile and laugh.

Being a muggleborn, James is unused to the robes that he had found himself having to wear for school, preferring the comforting pair of jeans and a t-shirt over the heavy robes every day. Even in class, he has a slightly casual appearance to his dress, his shirt often remaining untucked, the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, and his tie loose around his neck. When he can get away with not wearing his robes, he does, preferring the simple style he enjoys, a much more comfortable form than anything the uniform code would force him into. He does always wear a pair of sunglasses however, having been told his eyes are slightly disconcerting to people, and has made the concession to aid them, not caring one way or another.
Personality:
Despite the disadvantage his blindness has caused him, James has always maintained a good attitude, and he is unafraid to speak his mind to those he believes are being unjust, no matter the danger or disadvantage it puts him at. He is quick to speak, his temper often landing him in a spot of trouble that had resulted in him getting hurt, but the young man never seems to learn, turning around and doing it once more if the situation arises once more.

James is a kind young man. He would be the first to offer his hand to a fallen person, and the last to start a fight, though, he would finish one if the need arose. Due to his disability, he often resorted to underhanded tactics to succeed, knowing full well the disadvantage he would be in for his entire life. He sees it as his duty to be a friend to anyone he meets, or try to, and his transparent personality and eager smile often win most over to his side.

He is proud of who he is and what he had been through to become unique and individual. He doesn’t hide the fact that he is blind, but he doesn’t flaunt it either. He won’t accept pity from people who just see a blind person, nor will he accept special concessions. He wants to be treated as each of his non-blind classmates, and has gone to great lengths to prove he isn’t helpless despite the fact that he can’t see anything. He has and will continue to rap people in the shins with his cane when they imply that he isn’t as able as they are themselves.
Character Background:
James was born on a dark, stormy summer night to Vanessa and Michael Stone. He was a perfectly healthy baby, save for one fault, he was born blind. As he was a young child, he was constantly made fun of in primary school, much to the boy’s chagrin. It didn’t stop him though, he kept attempting to befriend everyone, and also to excel in his studies.

Due to his lack of sight, he had soon learned to memorize things, especially game boards such as chess and checkers. Due to his drive to succeed, he pushed himself to excel in the two games, often beating his opponents, but he also messed up sometimes costing himself the game. He had quite often had bouts of accidental magic, much to his parent’s confusion.

When his Hogwarts letter arrived, they were skeptical, until a professor wearing robes appeared upon their doorstep one day and showed them the truth of the letter. The professor was surprised, however, upon learning of James’ blindness, but assured his parents that he would still be allowed into Hogwarts.

As he rode upon the train, he was left alone for the majority of the ride, sitting quietly as people seemed to avoid his compartment.
Special Request:
    None as of yet.
Desired House:
    Gryffindor or Ravenclaw
Roleplay Sample:
Standing in what he was told was the entrance of the Great Hall, James turned his head to and fro, attempting to capture each sound and memorize it. He heard the whisper of voices, and a couple students behind him made a comment on the red and white cane he held loosely in his long-fingered hand.

“Excuse me,” a voice said at his elbow, causing him to turn his head and look in what he thought was the direction of the speaker’s voice. Unbeknownst to him, he was actually looking high and to the side of her voice, “Are you muggleborn?”

“Erm, yes,” he said quietly, “You?”

“Yeah,” she said before trailing off, he was startled when he felt the tips of someone’s fingers brush against the back of his hand. “You’re blind, aren’t you,” she said quietly, pulling her hand away from his.

“Yes, I have been since birth,” he replied with a shrug, “Can’t miss what you never had, hmm?” He heard her grunt in agreement.

“You’re blind,” an incredulous voice said from behind him, “They let a blind kid in? How desperate could they be? And you, with teeth like those, we won’t need beavers , ever again. They would hire you.”

“Shut up,” he heard her say quietly from beside him, causing James to straighten his spine as his temper flared.

“No, I don’t think I will,” the boy said from James’ other side, the sound of a dress shoe taking another step forward, “And what could you possibly do about it? Hmm?”

Judging the volume of his voice, James jerked his cane up sharply, rapping the other boy hard in the shin. He heard the other boy cry out, and he accidently ‘tripped’ hip checking the other kid roughly, causing him to sprawl loudly onto the hard stone floor. He heard the other eleven-year-olds begin guffawing in laughter at the boy laying upon the floor.

“Oh, I’m so sorry,” he said insincerely, “Let me help you up!”

Bending over, he swung his cane awkwardly and struck the other boy once more, causing another cry of pain. Tangling his hand in the other boy’s shirt, he helped to pull him to his feet, making a few quick movements to brush the other teen off.

“So sorry, how clumsy of me,” he said, barely suppressing a smile, “I mustn’t have seen you. Dearly sorry, ol’ chap.”

“You’ll pay for that,” the other boy muttered before the sound of his retreat reached James’ ears.

Shrugging his shoulders slightly, James turned back slightly toward the girl he had been talking to before they were rudely interrupted. Tilting his head, he strained his ears once more, attempting to pick up any sound of her.

“Hey, are you alright,” he asked her quietly.

    “Yeah, I’m fine,” she said.

“That’s good,” he said with a smile.

Sundari Harmony - February 18, 2010 09:57 PM (GMT)
Congratulations! You have been sorted into Gryffindor. Welcome to Wizarding Realm!

In light of the fact that you are new, here are a few bits of information that will help you on your journey to greatness. :)

Introduction Topic: One of the greatest ways to get to know other members (aside from RPing of course) is to make an intro topic. You can do that here. Post so that you may be properly welcomed!

The Ranking System: In an effort to help you reach your greatest writing potential, WR has instituted ranks. You start out as a beginner. Once you create three topics and put your application up for review, you will most likely be bumped up to novice. Once you reach that level, more forums in Hogwarts open up to you. Such as... the plotting pages and the journals. After that, you can pursue higher ranks; They are Intermediate, Advanced, and Elite. More detailed information and applications can be found here.

The Clash: Fast forward several years into the future, after your character has graduated from Hogwarts and had a little time to live. Two groups, The Guardians and Vesithe, are at war with each other. Another group called the Vigilante are neutral and work to stop the fighting. This is an ongoing plot that is seperate from the rest of the WR Roleplaying. You must have 50 posts to join, but that's not that hard! :P

Other Information: The signature limit is currently 500x250. Annnd colors are not to be used in your roleplaying posts. We have a skin changer and several different color skins. What might look good on one skin could be unreadable on another. Oh oh, and if you are already a member of WR, and have not gotten permission for having this character from Sundari Harmony, you better do so quick or feel her wrath. xD

Thanks so much for joining and we all hope to see you stay!
