Name: Mairead (Maisie) Lamont
House: Gryffindor
Physical Appearance:
For a professor, Maisie is very young, and she's still quite attractive. Her dark brown hair falls in soft waves around her shoulders, and she has still managed to keep herself in good shape. Her eyes are very striking - one is blue and the other brown - but she doesn't consider it to be detrimental. She likes the different look it gives her.
She usually wears Muggle clothes, often a sweater or T-shirt and jeans, under her robes. She doesn't really like to wear the Wizard clothing, although she still does for special occasions. She also proudly displays her Lamont tartan whenever she can, usually as a scarf (though she has it in just about every clothing item possible).
Maisie is obviously quite adept at Charms, though she doesn't use them on herself as much as she could. She doesn't like using spells to fix her hair or otherwise beautify herself, as she considers it to be a bit too vain for "a simple teacher".
Personality:
Maisie is, first and foremost, sarcastic. When she's not teaching (and sometimes when she is), every word is laced with biting wit, and her eyeroll has been perfected over the years. Her favorite phrase is probably "Oh, do go on," complete with aforementioned eyeroll. She is never without her humor, and she is quite pleased to find someone that will match her sarcasm.
She's also slightly obsessive-compulsive in that she counts everything into threes. Coins, books, and other objects will be stacked neatly into three piles, or piles of three, depending on what she feels would be appropriate. Her desk is based on this as well: There are three classes, and each class has three folders, labeled Theory (homework, usually), Wandwork (written evaluations done by either herself or the partner of the caster), and Practicals (tests). It keeps her organized, and it keeps her hands busy while she speaks.
During some of the working time in class, the students will often catch Maisie writing in a small leather notebook. No one is really sure what the book contains, but it's quite full of scribbles and drawings. She's never mentioned what it's all about - she likes leaving some things to the imagination.
She isn't what one would expect out of a teacher, either - sometimes she acts more like a student than she realizes. She likes to dress in Muggle clothing, usually with a cloak or robe over the garments to keep up appearances. When the kids are working on casting spells, she enjoys blasting rock music in the classroom, whether it's Muggle or Wizard (her favorite band is Swish and Flick - ask anyone). She's also very laid-back about most things, and as long as the students show up for their classes, they'll do all right. If they don't show... well, she'll just give them a detention and give them House points off. She does that at will, usually.
Character Background:
When Maisie was eleven years old, she was Sorted into Gryffindor. Her years at school were made more exciting by her friendly rivalry with Nicolas Gunner for Quidditch Captain, as well as her skill with a wand. While she was mischievous, just as most young witches and wizards are, she still managed to graduate with fantastic grades.
After Hogwarts, she was invited to become an apprentice under Ollivander. It was a job she enjoyed for awhile, and she learned how to make and fix most wands. While she worked diligently at the job for three or four years, she wasn't content with it for long. Before she left, though, she was allowed to make herself a new wand as a test - willow, with a unicorn hair/fairy wing core, whippy for her most frequent uses. Every part about it was excellent for Charms.
While she tried to decide what else she wanted to attempt for a job, she resumed contact with her old friend, Nick Gunner. She found that he had taken a job as the Arithmancy professor at Hogwarts, and the old Charms prof was stepping down. That was all she needed to hear - after an application and an interview or two with Headmistress Sundari, she took the position at her old school.
In addition to teaching Charms, her apprenticeship with Ollivander has taught her how to fix most minor wand problems. If a student ever has problems with their wand, they can bring it to her. If she can't fix it, she will direct them to someone who can.
