Appearance:
Personality:

Some girl spend their childhood wishing to be princesses and to live in beautiful castles, while others are born with tiaras and have them abruptly taken away. Hadriana Pursglove is among the later, and her tiara had been one of silver and pearls, as perfect as the world in which she had been raised. She had never been spoiled, not really, despite the fact that there had always been wealth, but she had always known her family held a prestigious name, and she had walked with her head held high throughout her days. She still does, always, despite the fact that there is no real confidence to back up her actions or behaviours now that she has to pretend. She hesitates, always and all too often, one million things that could possibly go wrong crossing her mind as she plays the part of the perfect pureblood girl that is loved by the world itself.

None of it shows on the outside, of course it doesn’t, because from a young age Hadriana was taught exactly how she should act, how to be the porcelain doll for her mother to paint on those portraits she loved so very much. The only times she was truly confident was when sitting atop of her horse, when feeling every single movement of the strong muscles of her pet’s body as they broke into a steady trot. But much alike all beautiful things about Hadriana’s life, her beloved Luck was also lost, and now she lives a life of pretending, of carefully placed glamour charms to hide the age of textbooks and worn-out clothes. Why? Because no one can know, because no one can see how far the Pursglove lineage has fallen, how their social status has been lost and how the siblings live in poverty now that their mother is in Azkaban and their father is gone.

Pride. The pride that comes with being a Pursglove, of loving her family more than anything in the world. Social status never meant much to her, or perhaps she had never realized how much it all truly meant, not until it was all suddenly taken away. Its out of love for her family that she pretends, for their name, for the father that is now long gone, and for the brother that is the only person left who is truly dear to her. Indeed, there is much she will do for Octavius - to make him proud, to make him smile, to make him happy once again - even if most of her attempts at such things result in failure, as no practical skills come with being raised to be a doll and nothing else. Although failure rarely ever manages to make her stop at her attempts.

Before everything had been lost, her classes had been chosen by interest, by those things which sounded nice and alluring simply by their names. Now, it’s more of a matter of need, taking electives such as Magical Home Economics because there is only one house elf left to take care of them. She’s not half bad at baking, although most of the time they result to be slightly burned, everything less than perfection not being an option when it comes to making cupcakes for the brother who works so hard for her sake. Potions are easier, and she soon learned to use her talent for the subject to make perfumes and nailpolishes now that she can no longer afford to buy those for herself. Then there is charms, those which never came with as much ease but were perfected with practice, glamours placed every single morning as if part of a routine itself.

Beautiful things result alluring, like the flowers she braids into her hair, the colourful hairpins and the enchanted snow-globes she used to collect - most of them now sold in order to buy Octavius, or 'Tavy' as she often call him, all those things he does not buy for himself. Because as much as she loves beautiful things, there is nothing she loves more than her brother, and she’s willing to give up everything that’s left for his sake - even if she knows such a thing would never be allowed by Octavius himself.

Character Background:
The world often seemed perfect when looking at the inside of a snow globe - beautifully painted buildings laid still as small figures smiled while caught in an endless winter of glitter and white. One of Hadriana’s favourites had always been that of the city she grew up staring at through the windows of a manor, sometimes even stepping on those streets while never letting go of her brother’s hand. In her snow globe, the London Eye would spin in a slow and soothing motion, while particles of glitter got caught in the hands of tiny Big Ben that always seemed to indicate the right time. But the city itself was never as appealing as what laid within that glass sphere, and there would be times when she wished to never have seen the London that was neither perfect nor bright.

Hadriana Eustacia Pursglove had been born in the middle of a winter as dazzling as those of the snow-globes she would so excitedly collect over the years, the first of them being a carousel of whites and golds, adorned with the smallest pink roses and pearls, gifted to her by her father on the very day of her birth. Despite their family’s wealth, Caelius Pursglove had never been one to spoil his children, yet there had always been those gifts to celebrate important days, those which would become relevant to them not because of material worth but everything that they meant.

In truth, she had been an accident, the child that was never expected to exist, unlike the older brother for whom her parents had wished and who had been born after numerous attempts over years after their wedding day. Octavius had been born heir to the long lasting Pursglove lineage, he who was supposed to meet the expectations of all those who had made a name for themselves in the field of broom-making over centuries of refining the art itself. Meanwhile nothing was truly expected from Hadriana, except for happiness and perfection itself - a porcelain doll, beautiful and so easy to break, existing for her mother to dress up and paint in those portraits on which she would spend the hours of her days. Phillipa Pursglove had loved her family, even her husband despite the arranged circumstances under which they had been wed, but she had never been meant to be a caring mother, and her children were seen as adorable things to play with, enjoyable until the inevitable tears came.

As a child, none of it seemed strange, and Hadriana’s days had been spent by the side of her brother, rarely ever letting go of that hand that made her feel so safe. There had been nannies who had taken care of them when their mother did not, there had been countless house elves cooking in kitchens and cleaning floors, and there had been the silence of a manor which never seemed to quite fade away no matter how much children laughed and played. No matter how much the girl loved each of her family members, Octavius had always been the one who meant everything to her; the one she was always chasing after, the one whose name she would call when feverish and unable to leave bed, the one who would tell her her favourite stories when sad or scared, and the one whose room she would quietly walk to in the darkest hours when nightmares stole her sleep away. He had been her happiness, and her heart had broken when that much expected letter from Hogwarts finally came.

She did not blame him, of course she didn’t, because as pureblood wizards they had always known that magic ran through their veins, yet at the short age of ten there was little about the world that Hadriana understood, and she had cried the day her brother had gone away on the Hogwarts Express. Her everyday had been spent by the side of her horse during that year - gifted to her by her father the day she had turned eight and the most precious thing in her life after Octavius himself. Sir Luckless, nicknamed ‘Luck’, a majestic palomino named after the knight in The Fountain Of Fair Fortune, that which had been her favourite story since before she could ever understand what it all meant. And when her time to attend Hogwarts had arrived, the girl couldn’t have been more ecstatic, for she would get to spend every single day with her brother and she would get to take Luck with her.

Nothing had been extraordinary about Hadriana’s time at the castle, her days had been spent by the side of her brother, asking for help whenever homework seemed all too difficult for her to do it by herself, or by the stables, riding that horse which was so dear to her. The summer before her sixth year, it had all changed, in the middle of one of the usual quiet nights at the manor - except this time the silence was interrupted by the loud yells of their mother and the distressed explanations their father gave. When Octavius entered her room that night, she hugged him, asking why was it that their mother yelled, but as soon as she asked, the silence returned, and that was when the Aurors came. She would never forget that night, and how her worlds was destroyed thanks to those events, like a snow globe fallen to the ground and broken into a million pieces of glass and porcelain, no longer the perfect picture of happiness and wealth.

That night had been the night of Caelius Pursglove’s death, fallen victim of an unforgivable curse cast by Phillipa Pursglove herself. Why? A mistake made by the man, the inexcusable action that was falling victim to a veela’s charm. From that moment on everything had spiralled out of control -the funeral, Phillipa’s trial, the briberies paid in order to keep secret what had happened within the manor’s walls. Piece by piece, the life of the Pursglove children began falling apart, with every single item they had to sell in order to pay for the consequences of those events. Their mother’s jewelry, the portraits she loved to paint, Octavius’ beloved broom, and even the manor itself. Her horse was what hurt the most, and Hadriana had cried the moment Luck got taken away, but everything about the days after her father’s demise seemed full of tears, as it was hard to adapt to so much changed.

The gorgeous home they had been raised in got replaced by a small apartment, and all house elves were gone by one -Finch- an old creature that stubbornly chose to stay by the sibling’s side despite the fact that there was no way they could pay for its services now that it had all been taken away. With their mother in Azkaban, Octavius became Hadriana’s legal guardian, for at least he was seventeen and an adult by wizard’s standards. Having him by her side was her only comfort through those days, and it would be on him on whom she would always rely on as time went by.

The Sorting Hat is placed on your head. What are you thinking at that moment?: “Can I be in Octavius’ house? I really miss him. If not then that’s okay too! Uhmm...other than that I don’t really have a preference no. Not Slytherin though, mother always said the dungeons were cold.”
