Like had gone from calm to complicated all too quickly, and Paisley didn't know how to handle it. One minute, she was leaving her fifth year at Hogwarts to return home to her parents like she always had, and the next minute her mother was dying from a mysterious illness. When she passed away, Paisley was left with questions without answers, and a father who refused to look his daughter in the eyes. Truth be told, Paisley was never very close to either of her parents. They were always stark opposite to the Hufflepuff girl; strong, powerful and independent human beings. Not that Paisley was uncapable of being alone, but thus far in her sixteen years of life, she needed a lot of encouragement at times. The girl suffered from a mild form of anxiety along with some self-conscious issues that sometimes forced her to ball up into a little bubble and isolate herself from everyone, including her friends. She was working on it. Trying not to alienate herself in moments of need, which resulted in her seeking out her friends almost at the exact instant when her anxiety was ripening.

Which is why she headed up to the Hufflepuff dormitory, an armful of snacks in hand, to hang out with her friend, Fae Forsythe.

Fae was a good friend to Paisley, and one that she adored with all her heart. The ball of sunshine was exactly like Paisley needed in times of crisis, to remind her that there is light at the end of the tunnel. And tonight, she was gonna tell Fae all about her new engagment to Ewout de Dood, and the planned 'date' that they were scheduled to go on. This morning, shortly after finishing her breakfast, Paisley received both letters. One from her father telling her about the engagement, and one from Ewout stating that they were to go on a date to O Delicious the following day. It was much like him asking for her to join him, and more like him telling her that she needed to be there. It really made her skin crawl thinking about being forced to fall for someone, let alone someone she barely knew. She recognized his name from a few classes of hers, and maybe because she knew that him and Isolde Grimm were best friends, but that was it. The idea of being forced into someone else's life was horrible, and Paisley was getting overwhelmed just thinking about it.

Classes were over for the day, so Paisley knew there was a 75% chance the Hufflepuff girl would be back in her dorm already, getting ready for bed, or at least somewhere near the common room for her to find. Paisley would have told her during their last class that she wanted to have a girls night and sit on each others bed and gorge themselves on candy and sweets, but Paisley hadn't fully committed to the idea until she walked past the kitchen and smelled the delicious banana bread that was been baked. She slipped her small frame into the doorway, and without minutes, was holding an assortment of baked goods and candies that she was able to convince a house elf to share with her. Of course, with the sharing came a little bribery and possibly some promises of Paisley helping to making the morning breakfast with them, or at least help clean up before her classes, but regardless, Paisley now had an assortment of treats to be bring her friend. At least while she was possibly crying about the fact that she has to get married to someone she doesn't love, she can cry into some fresh banana bread.

Walking into the Hufflepuff dorms, Paisley tossed the snacks onto Fae's nicely made bed, before turning around to see if her friend had made it up there yet. A sigh of disappointment exited her lips, scanning the empty room. She would be here soon, right? Paisley was willing to wait. Honestly, what else was she supposed to do? She made two empty spots on the bed, one for herself and one for Fae when she turned up, and then reached down to grab a piece of banana bread before stuffing it into her mouth. Her strawberry blonde hair was messy and frizzy, but that was common after a long day. Fae wouldn't mind though. I'm sure at some point, she would start playing with her hair and doing something to it. Paisley wasn't that good at fixing her hair. She really only new three styles; an up-do, natural and curly. That's about it. Everything else, she needed help with. Not that she didn't have enough around. That was the nice thing about being a Hufflepuff, everyone seemed really willing to help her. Paisley appreciated this very much.

Pulling her legs onto the bed and crossing them infront of her, the badger waited patiently for her friend to arrive and see the assortment of treats she had waiting for her.

Being engaged was something far too odd to even be considered by the young Hufflepuff, yet it was the reality Fae was living in. Her parents had never hidden their disappointment in their only child – paintings and drawings the girl had created barely even met with a glance or a nod of acknowledgement, let alone approval. The girl was all too aware her grades weren’t up to their standards, nor was anything about her really. If it weren’t for her aunt, the badger was sure her life would be far more gloomy – with dark clouds looming over her and the darkest colours finding their way into her art. But her aunt was like a large ray of sunshine that burst through the darkest days, always making sure Fae would keep the smile on her face and telling her to never give up hope. It was her voice that rang through the small girl’s head when thoughts of her engagement flooded her, threatening to overwhelm her and pull her down.

Wasn’t she supposed to be happy that at the very least, her fiancé was one of her best friends? It was something she tried to keep telling herself, but it was easier said than done when Fae had never expected her parents to actually set up an engagement for her. She was a lost cause, hopeless, and she figured it meant they would leave her be – yet the opposite was true. Her husband would be Oisin Woodbane, a boy she had known ever since they were children and someone she adored with all her heart, but did that mean she was okay with marrying him? A soft sigh tumbled over the badger’s lips, small hands reaching up to adjust the headband on her caramel hair. Her fingers rubbed over the shape of the cat ears that were attached to them, their lines created with small roses. It charmed a smile to her face, eyes of emerald green dancing across the common room in search of a distraction. The Hufflepuff’s mind was as easily distracted as could be, always looking for something more fun to do than the unfinished homework she had tucked beneath her sketchbook. The soft fabric of the couch’s cushions was all too comfortable, but she stood anyway, suddenly realizing how late it had become.

‘’Catsie, are you here?’’ Fae called out while looking around, eyebrows knitted together as she realized her Scottish Fold wasn’t near. Maybe she had gone back to the dorms already? When painting and drawing, the small girl usually forgot the time, and it had happened once more. The signs of what she had been doing – procrastinating – were all too clear, the daisies she had painted on the back of her hand serving as glaring evidence. No one was going to tell her off about it though, would they? Besides, the flowers looked nice on her hand, like her skin was a garden without any grass or dirt to actually make them grow. Oh well. Holding her sketchbook and the parchment that had been left unwritten against her chest, Fae skipped up to the girls’ dormitory, her gaze immediately finding Paisley upon entering. ‘’LeeLee!’’ Fae exclaimed in excitement, as if she hadn’t seen her dear friend in their classes just a few hours ago.

Her fellow badger was sitting on Fae’s bed, but it was nothing she really minded, coming closer while her smile seemed to be etched into her features. ‘’Do you want to have a sleepover?’’ she asked as she placed her belongings on the nightstand, green eyes falling onto the candy on the bed before they widened in excitement. ‘’Candy!’’ the small girl squealed, immediately dropping onto her bed and pulling her short legs up to cross them. ‘’This is so good,’’ Fae mumbled as she stuffed some gummy bears into her mouth. Wrinkling her nose as a sweet scent reached her, the badger sniffed for a few moments. ‘’I smell something sweet. What is it? Did the house elves bake you something? They are always so nice!’’ The chatter never ceased to stop, her excited voice filling the dorm – until suddenly, it grew quiet. Fae frowned as the realization dawned on her; did Paisley want to talk about something? Did she feel bad, and was that why she had grabbed them all this candy? After all, her friend’s mother had died recently. Fae’s lips shaped into a pout, her small hands lowering until they rested on her skirt – embroidered with cat paws, of course. ‘’Wait, are you okay?’’ she asked, eyes wide as she stared at Paisley.
