Delicate snowflakes had flurried thick and fast down on Hogwarts and vanished already this December and Miyuki was disappointed. The white blanket of snow had been stupendously pretty and now, in late December, it was as if there was no sign it had touched the school grounds in decades. She wondered if it had snowed in Inverness yet or if it was just as bitterly cold and boring there too, Miyuki didn't hate a lot of things but she did have very strong, displeased feelings towards the lack of snow. Apparently Hogwarts was close to her hometown, she knew there were muggle trains that ran from Inverness straight to...somewhere close to here...Yuki couldn't remember the exact place name that Shizuka or maybe somebody else had told her once.

The bitter coldness of the air didn't affect her like it did to some of the other students, she had grown up in Scotland her entire life so it was barely different yet she always saw and heard wild amounts of people complain about it. Was it really that bad? Maybe so but Yuki could never find that out though. Not unless she erased herself from history and made sure she was reborn in the south of England or something. Thatcham is nice apparently. Although, the girl had gotten thinking, what if it was down to the amount of layers she wore? No, couldn't be that, she's always being told she barely covers herself up. Today she wore layers though, her outfit started with a cute lace bralet-thing (at least that was what she thinks its called) and then the ruffle bodysuit was the second tier of the cake. Miyuki guessed her bottom half could be counted as layers too: first there were the fishnet tights, then her high waist shorts, and finally the leather thigh bands. There was a hoodie in there somewhere too, she wore it on her arm, this wasn't nearly cold enough for a hoodie on top of her layers.

Miyuki was headed to the courtyard today, most of her roommates were southern which meant her dorm was too hot to breathe in and much too hot to dare try study in. Yes, it was the Christmas break now so she didn't need to study but Yuki didn't know what else to do with herself. She had gotten bored of spending time with the same people in the castle so she needed a change. Miyuki thought about going to the library at some point later, after it got too dark to read her scribbled writing. The Ravenclaw hadn't expected there to be anybody in the courtyard this time of year (they were usually back at home or holed in the castle like her snuggled up dorm mates) however, there was, in fact, a petite girl shivering slightly in the most cutest bear attire Miyuki had ever seen. Yuki skipped over to her, she was so small, "here!" Yuki proclaimed, shoving the unworn hoodie towards the unknown girl. "You look cold and i'm really, really warm. You should have it i guess," Yuki beamed, her bear gloves--paws were cute.

Even after five years, winter at Hogwarts always seemed to surprise Tori. In Myddfai, it got cool, some might even say chilly. At times it would snow, but it always seemed to vanish quickly. Perhaps that was why she had very few clothes that would guard against any actual cold. It was just not something she had to worry about as a child. And somehow, though it snowed and stormed around the castle every winter, she never expected it to and so she never properly prepared her wardrobe for the season.

Winter this year was a surprise as well. Not because of the snow, though, but for the lack of it. It had snowed and it had been glorious and cold and she had romped around in it building snowmen and making snow angels as her breath steamed around and her cheeks turned bright pink. And then the snow had vanished and left the grounds wet and grey.

Looking out the window earlier that day, the scenery had reminded her of her home in Wales. Consciously the little Hufflepuff knew that she was still in Scotland and that it was probably freezing outside, but it just looked so much like home. So she didn't really pause to grab a second coat or anything when she went out to the greenhouse. She probably wouldn't have done so regardless. Another coat would have ruined her entire polar bear look. She did at least have the foresight to grab her scarf and a pair of gloves (fingerless of course so she could still use her wand and touch objects without issues).

The greenhouse was a stark contrast to the temperature outside and by the time she finished up and left, she was sweating in her layers. The cold air was comfortable at first and so she didn't hurry back into the castle. She skipped from tile to tile as she entered the courtyard, doing her absolute best to avoid touching any cracks. At least until she stumbled and forget her little rule in an effort to re-balance herself. The broken rule was quickly forgotten as she looked at the marble column she had come to a stop next to. For all intents and purposes, it was quite and ordinary column, but this close up she could see the sprawling frost patterning itself across the stone.

Frost wasn't exactly a rarity, but she had never shown it much interest. But now she could see quite clearly the lines as they swirled and crackled across the column in almost flower-like shapes. It was really very beautiful and she lost herself trying to trace out the lines on the stone, her fingertips and nose steadily getting more pink as she stood there inspecting the ice. She really was mesmerized by these frozen flowers, at least until the sound of footsteps interrupted her thoughts.

She blinked up at the other girl (literally up, because honestly how tall was she?) then glanced down at the offered hoodie. "Oh, I--" the redhead, about to turn down the offer, stopped herself. She hadn't realized before, but she really was cold. Cold enough in fact that she was shivering. "Thank you." She took the garment, stroking her fingers over the soft cotton briefly before pulling it on. She made a small sour face as the hoodie seemed to swallow her, forcing the girl to shake her hands free from the sleeves before she could adjust it so it was sitting on her comfortably.

"Are you really not that cold?" The fact that this taller girl was warm was just as much of a surprise to Tori as her own shivering had been. Was she from the North Pole or something? Her outfit was really pretty but the sixth year was positive that she herself would freeze if she wore something like that outside this time of the year.

This girl was cute, the kind of cute that made Miyuki want to put her on the mantle piece and show her off. Obviously she wouldn't do that though, this was a real girl and Yuki knew that isn't how you treat your friends let alone a stranger. Yet for some reason the fourth year knew she knew her from somewhere. This seemed to be a common theme running through her life, actually, Yuki had always been very good at remembering faces! Her downfall was remembering where she actually knew them from, and remembering their names, and quite literally everything else about them that wasn't their face. If she had ever thought about it hard enough she could have put her finger on why it was this happened but Miyuki didn't have the attention span for that, or the focus, or the patience.

Yuki wasn't even thinking about why that happened then and there in the courtyard, she was too busy grinning at how utterly adorable the girl's outfit was and how she wanted all of it. Although none of what this girl wore would ever suit her aesthetic. Miyuki liked to dress in clothes that either should be worn by somebody on a stage or somebody.....Somebody more fierce than her; she liked short shorts and ripped jeans, showy tops and leather bands wherever they could go. Black was her usual to-go colour with reds and pinks making an appearance somewhere on the most of her outfits. Miyuki thought her jumper looked adorable on the girl, the way it drowned her entirely made her squeal a little and she would have pinched her cheeks had they not been strangers.

The taller girl tilted her head a little, trying to figure out what the shorter had been caught in a daze by, she had just been stood by one of the pillars looking at it? Even up close Miyuki was unsure why it seemed to be so interesting, it was just a plain pillar. "Hmm?" Yuki straightened herself up again as the girl's words dragged her out of her curiosity, 'are you really not that cold?' No, she really wasn't. Yuki had been known to be a living, breathing radiator throughout her partial friendship group, "I'm really, really warm. Feel my hands!" She exclaimed, shoving her hands towards the other girl. "I'm Miyuki, and you are?" Whoever this girl was was just so cute Yuki was ready to drop her study plans to hang out with her and put a name and memories behind her pretty, little face.
