"Jeongmin-ah!"

It was rare for YB to go actively searching for somebody - people were not his forte, and sometimes found them overbearing and gross - but for the few human beings that were actually decent in the world, there was an exception. Jeongmin Yoon was not entirely unbearable, though there was a part of him that the other Gryffindor boy found too happy on the odd occasion, but the company the other provided was pleasant enough. His music was good; YB would never admit that to his face. He was a fan of the genre, and the way Jeongmin sounded when he would sing, but telling that to the other boy meant showing an indication of interest in him, which was not something he wanted to do. The Korean boy was one of those support from afar and with compliments disguised as insults kind of friends. The other boy was new, though, a transfer from Mahoutokoro and that meant there was a possibility he knew his siblings, but that was a story for another time, and not something he wanted to divulge into at this very moment. See, YB did not go looking for people unless he needed something, which in itself was not a common occurrence.

He had gone searching throughout the castle and could not find him anywhere, and it was starting to frustrate him. The permanent scowl on his expression had only deepened, and his hands had turned pink from the cold, winter air that he had exposed them to, due to a lack of gloves. YB hated the cold, but he needed his hands forever free from restraint at all times. He was a flame in the wind, flickering but standing strong, unwilling to relent and extinguish his light and heat at a trivial matter. He needed his hands in case he suddenly needed to flare up and burn whoever tried to come near him. That was why he had been nicknamed Jellyfish; soft to look at, but they would sting you if you tried to touch them, killing you with no regrets, only going to continue with their day as if nothing had happened. YB didn't like to think of himself as a jellyfish - they were too pretty - though he liked to think the animal representing his house was most appropriate. Fierce like a lion, almost frighteningly so, with his voice as loud as a roar.

But right now, YB was looking for his fellow lion, skulking around and kicking open the door to every room with his foot flat against the wood, only to startle the occupants; there would be no utterance of apology when he stormed off, angry that he still hadn't found who he had been looking for. Where was Jeongmin? With his hands shoved into the pocket of his coat, and his fingers of his right hand curled around his lighter, his grip was tight enough to almost crush the plastic in his palm, constellation tattoo on the back of his hand flexing as his knuckles tightened. It was only when he reached the Theatre that his search had thankfully come to an end, as the blond boy spotted the very person he had been looking for. "Jeongmin-ah, where the heck have you been?" Have you noticed he's been trying to swear less? It hasn't really been working, as the explicit language was clinging to the edge of his tongue and threatening to tumble out if he opened his mouth again. "I've been looking for you. I need a favour." No kind words from YB; seemed like today was just a regular day.

The pads of his fingertips dragged themselves along the ivory keys in front of him; they were cold. He was cold. When was the last time the lion had not felt like this? A bother, waste of space, hated, and down right unwanted. It was here, in front of this piano in this exact theatre. The day Jeongmin Yoon reconnected with his cousin Serenity Gong.

If you ever asked him ‘Who do you love the most?’ on that last at the top would be his cousin Rennie. Jeongmin adored her, idolized her — how he dreamed of being as intelligent as she was and as well praised. He worshipped the ground that she walked on and would do anything she asked of him. Yet she never did. When they were younger and he was being taken by his aboeji and sent to Japan, he ached for her to say goodbye at the airport.

But she didn’t.

The fifth year should have known since then to up his guard.

But he didn’t.

She never responded to any letters he wrote, any toys or snacks he sent from Japan instead of keeping them to himself. Jeongmin loved his cousin like the sister he always wanted. During the midst of transferring from Mahouotokoro to Hogwarts he was excited that they could meet again, be together again and be as inseparable as they were in their youth.

But they didn’t.

Now here he was, reminiscing about the past like an old friend that stabbed you in the back. As toxic as it sounds what other choice did he have? Serenity was his favorite cousin and now that she was gone...what family did he have left? Before the lion could drown himself in tears, his fingers sprawled themselves above the key. Jeongmin was hesitant for a moment before playing the first chord he could find, then another, and soon an arrangement he memorized from his youth was audible throughout the theatre.

Any emotion that was not a positive one poured out of him through the piece. It felt symbolic almost, attempting to accept his fate where it all began; almost as if whoever was writing this planned it all. As the last notes were played he blinked and came back to reality at the calling of his name. Turning his attention to the entrance he couldn’t help the smile creep on his face. “YB-ah!” he spun to face him. It was time to stop being the emotional Jeongmin and return to the one that everyone knew, the one everyone loved...

the one everyone chose best to ignore.

“A favor?” he echoed curiously, a brow raising and head tilting to the side. “What kind of a favor? Is it something bad?”

warning: swears.

To say YB was the picture of popularity would be a lie, a blatant one at that. Commonly labelled as rude, there was hardly anybody who could handle his moods, his aversion to being touched in any way, his bouts of aggression and foul mouth that seemed almost too toxic to be true. Hardly anybody, except a few who could be named. Yedam Bi. One of his best friends, who seemed too gentle to be friends with somebody like YB; Yedam was soft, like a circle, whereas YB Yoo was a hexagon, harsh edges and too many sides to the point you didn't know what was up and what was down anymore. The other boy to their trio was Jeongmin Yoon - another Gryffindor - who he had been searching for with the reason that he felt ignored. With Jeongmin being so distant lately, it had set a bad feeling in the pit of his stomach, and it was like being five years old again, wondering why his half-siblings wouldn't play with him. It made him uneasy, made him question if he had done something to offend the other boy, which YB was a little surprised had taken this long, in all honesty. The backs of his palms were itchy, fingertips idly tracing the tattoos on otherwise pale skin, stretched over the tendons and delicate bones that came close to breaking everytime he laid his fists into somebody; his knuckles were bruised badly, but when did that make a change?

Jeongmin and YB couldn't be more different than the polar opposites they already were. Everybody loved Jeongmin, adored that bunny smile that he had on his expression now, or that was how the blond boy saw it anyway. Polar opposites, because YB wasn't loved by anybody. Not his father, not his mother, nobody. But that was how he knew it, how he felt comfortable. He hadn't felt affection in ten years. He hadn't felt arms wrap around him and comfort him when he cried, or holding a hand when doing something as mundanely medicore as crossing the road in a bid to keep him safe, because nobody wanted that. Yongbae Yoo was the biggest hassle in the world, the largest mistake ever to be created, but that was how he knew it. Even now, when Yedam would go to tug on his wrist or Jeongmin to hug him, they would stop themselves; was it bad that they even had to think about it? Was it a hassle they had to physically restrain themselves around him? Why couldn't he be fucking normal? Watching Jeongmin at the piano, the weight on his shoulders despite his smile, why couldn't he be normal, and be able to help his friend? To comfort him by wrapping his arms around him, or hell, at least being able to pat his shoulder, but that was a task better fit for somebody sweeter than YB, somebody kinder, or maybe somebody who deserved his friends more than he did.

"I... I don't think so." Was it bad to want attention from his friends? Aw, shit. Maybe it was. Maybe he had just fucked everything up by wanting something he didn't deserve. Running a hand through bleached blond hair, a harsh sigh sounded from his lips as he moved closer, resting both forearms over the top of the piano, so only his fingers could lightly touch the keys that sounded more like a fucking triangle than a piano. "Maybe? Uh..." The words got caught in his throat, like too warm chocolate that he just couldn't swallow. Another sigh - so close to the other one, also - resting his cheek against his bicep, tongue poking out to wet his lips. "You... you haven't been avoiding me, have you?" Already dreading the answer, he tried to focus more on the fly-away hairs sticking up on Jeongmin's head rather than the shape of his lips and whatever sounds would be heard from them, though he suspected it would be a 'yes' rather than a 'no', with the only reason being that it would just suit his luck. "Shit, Minnie... if you're pissed at me, you know I'd rather you tell me than hide it." The Korean boy didn't want him to walk around on eggshells, unable to look him in the face all because of one, singular incident. "What's going on with you? You're different." Perhaps his words sounded more accusatory than he intended, but he couldn't take them back now.
