With the soft breeze whistling through the grass and the warmth from the rays of the sun, one could say that it would be the perfect day for a Care of Magical Creatures class. Minkyu Minami did not think so. He was definitely more of an autumn person, with vibrant red and gold leaves scattered along the ground, and spring was certainly not his favourite season by any means. Unfortunately, it was the best one to interact with various beasts and beings, as a majority of those who lived outside obviously would prefer the dry to the wet. Having only been at Hogwarts for a few weeks, it was a strange feeling to be back at the school he had been educated that, though he remembered it very differently. Perhaps it was the fact he no longer stood at five foot three, or that maybe Mahoutokoro was so different in many ways; Minkyu’s expectations were not going to change at all, nor would his general cynical outlook on how students would behave around his Magical Creatures. There was no doubt in his mind that would do everything else but to listen to him, prodding and aggravating the beasts until they did something that was likely to cause an injury. It was their own fault, really, but he didn’t want to have to deal with a barrage of angry parents blaming him for the fact their child was a self-entitled, spoilt little brat. Was he in the wrong job? Likely, and thinking on it now, maybe having his first class on Hippogriffs was a bad idea...

With the help of caretaker Henry O’Sullivan, preparing the herd hadn’t been a difficult task, though maybe Minkyu had spent far too much time acquainting himself with them all instead of actively preparing for the class. It wasn’t meant to be overly difficult anyway, but rather an extra excuse for him to talk a lot about his favourite beasts. Everything about them was just outstanding in his eyes, and he had seen how strong they were here as well; it was relieving to know they were being taken care of him here. Henry did his job well, which was a comfort at the very least. During his travels for the first two years after graduation, he had seen the state of some herds that was downright horrific. Sickly thin, talons too long, bald patches amongst their feathers. That was what had prompted his first lesson; how to care for Hippogriffs. How to earn their trust and respect - if other people were even capable of proving themselves to be trustworthy - how to feed them, and all sorts. Minkyu figured it was enough of a task to challenge them, to sort the wheat from the chaff, while also an apt opportunity for him to look through the list of those who wanted to be an aide.
The paper in his hand was scruffy, torn in the corners and looking a lot worse for wear.

Minkyu was a little busy running his hand over one of the Hippogriff's beak when he turned his head and was suddenly faced with students; his nose wrinkled. Wonderful. Taking a deep breath, he wasn't nervous. He had been teaching for almost seven years now, and not much really phased him when it came to the actions of teenagers, especially when dealing with his youngest half-sister. "Right," His voice was hoarse, his shoulders squared as he turned to face his class properly. "Welcome to Care of Magical Creatures. I'm Professor Minami, and you will call me as such. If you had any common sense, you will notice that we will be interacting with the school's Hippogriff herd, thanks to Mr. Sullivan." Was it possible for a man to sound so monotone in his description? It was almost as if he didn't care for much explanation at all. "This term we will be starting with creatures that have been given the three-x rated from the Ministry of Magic, namely Nifflers, Hippogriffs and the Doxy, and we will finish with creatures given the five-x rated, such as the Dragons, Manticores and Chimaeras a majority of you have requested. However, a greater part of those will be theory lessons." Like hell was he letting any of these near a manticore; no deaths this term, thank you very much. "Now, can anybody please name me three physical differences between a Griffin and a Hippogriff, please?

"So, I'm going to go by the assumption that not many of you have interacted with a Hippogriff before?" Why on earth did he phrase that like a question? "Hippogriffs are proud creatures; if you respect them, they will respect you, and be very loyal to you." Immediately, he remembers the Hippogriff foal he was taking care of at Mahoutokoro with a heavy heart. Turns out the apparent stone-hearted Minkyu Minami wasn't as soulless as he would like to admit. "However, approaching them, wild or tamed, always holds a risk. Like I said, you have to respect Hippogriffs, or else they won't hesitate to tear your arm off." On his left are wooden buckets, which he gestures to. "Today, you'll be learning how to approach a Hippogriff safely and politely, and then how to feed one. They are carnivorous, but I don't expect anybody who is vegetarian or vegan to touch the food if they are uncomfortable doing so." He was not going to act like a total jerk; besides, inside the buckets were numerous insects, as he figured they would maybe go down a lot better than birds and mammals, such as ferrets. "The first thing you do when approaching a Hippogriff is bow, and then wait for them to bow back. The lower the bow, the more likely they'll appreciate this and return the favour. After this, you may slowly and calmly move closer, but make no sudden movements. If they start to act up, you must back away immediately, and bow again." Minkyu hoped he was making sense. "If they are fine so far, you may pet them, and then take on the buckets and feed them.

"The first one to pet a Hippogriff receives five house points." A pause. "Oh, and if you're nervous, I can supervise you if you want. Just ask me."

____________
HELLO! Welcome to the first Care of Magical Creatures class! This time around, your characters will be interacting with Hippogriffs with use of the dice roll!

First of all, however, the first person to answer Mink's question will receive FIVE IC HOUSE POINTS/ ONE OOC HOUSE POINT and the first to successfully interact with a Hippogriff will receive FIVE IC HOUSE POINTS/ ONE OOC HOUSE POINT.

Please follow the correct etiquette of interacting with the Hippogriffs, with the outcomes determined by the dice roll!

CODE
[roll]1d3[/roll]

INSTRUCTION ONE: Bow.
1. Your Hippogriff bows back eagerly; you seem to be paired with a good egg.
2. Your Hippogriff is a little cautious, and bows after hesitating a moment or two.
3. Your Hippogriff is not a happy bunny; please back off for a moment, before trying again.

INSTRUCTION TWO: Approach.
1. Your Hippogriff steps forward to meet you, and makes soft noises at your pets.
2. Again, your Hippogriff is cautious, and makes no move to meet you, and seems to bristle under your touch.
3. Your Hippogriff steps back and makes a loud noise, flapping its wings threateningly. You may want to step back before you get hurt!

Mink will begrudgingly hold a demonstration for your character if they wish it, or he may supervise them if they are nervous. No character will get injured in this class; he will step in before that happens. If you are successful, you get to feed your Hippogriff, and may even make a lifelong friend!

HOUSE POINTS:
5 IC/1 OOC for the first person to answer the question correctly.
5 IC/1 OOC for the first person to interact with a Hippogriff correctly.
EXTRA CREDIT:
5 IC/1 OOC for the first person to ask a question about Hippogriffs.
5 IC/1 OOC for the first person to feed a Hippogriff.
5 IC/1 OOC for the first person to roll a 3 and their character reacts accordingly (showing respect and backing off).

One class that had Paisley Noir happier than all the rest was certainly Care of Magical Creatures. From a very young age, the proud Hufflepuff was fond of creatures, may it be magical or not. She felt as if she could connect with them on a level that she couldn't with other human beings. She had owned many creatures in her sixteen years of life, but did not have a favorite in particular. Rather, she enjoyed learning about every creature. One day, she hoped to be either a magizoologist, or a teacher of the subject that she enjoyed so much. More than likely, she wasn't going to end up being a teacher. The rather small, frail and clumsy Hufflepuff did not enjoy being the center of attention, which would be a requirement if she became a teacher. Instead, possibly to help with her anxiety, Paisley had chosen to volunteer as a TA for this years COMC class. After filling out a small form and sending it to her teacher, she was accepted. She wasn't sure exactly what that entitled, but she figured that after this days class, she would find out a little more about it. And decided whether she made the right choice or not.

With her backpack heavy with the days classes, Paisley tried her best to run out to the classroom meeting area, which happened to be outside in a familiar spot. Hippogriffs, Paisley thought to herself, her smile growing brighter and wider, as she made it to the meeting area and saw the sight in front of her. As students started to bellow into the area, Paisley couldn't be bothered. Her eyes were fixed on the beautiful creatures in front of her. She wanted to badly to have the chance to approach one. Once the professor began talking, Paisley tried her best to focus on him, but still couldn't keep her eyes away from the beautiful creatures that she felt so connected with.

Pet a hippogriff.

Paisley jumped up and down a bit, her bag nearly knocking her off the ground. She tossed her bag off and started to walk slowly up the hippogriffs. Was she supposed to wait for a Go! moment? She wasn't sure. Once she had gotten into range of the hippogriff that she had been staring at since she got to class, she slowly and gently bowed, hoping that she was doing it right, and not looking like a total idiot.

--
Paisley is like half paying attention and as soon as she hears she can pet a hippogriff, she drops her bag and heads up to one and bows, hoping that she is doing it right.

One wouldn't think that Desdemona had ever handled a magical creature in her life just by looking at her. Ladies of high society weren't supposed to deal with such things. Of course those people might be a little bit wrong with that assumption as the witch loved playing with the Crups and assisting her mother whenever something new and magical came along. Most of the time the new and magical creatures were only new to Desdemona as they were species already discovered and catalogued, but getting her hands on them had always been a bit of an experience. It came to no surprise to her little sister that the eldest had signed up for COMC. The truth of the matter was that she wanted to test her hand at doing things more or less on her own before trying for a career. That was what school was for after all.

Her books were tucked away and she had her hands at her sides out of her robes, eyes settled on the magnificent sight of the Hippogriff. She noted how Professor Minami had been stroking the creature's beak and thought that he was a little gruff and maybe a little annoyed at their arrival since his demeanor seemed to change as they all clustered together. Unlike Ancient Runes the witch didn’t raise her hand to answer Professor Minami’s question, her focus had shifted towards the Hufflepuff approaching the Hippogriff. She knew that they were sensitive creatures and a lot of their interactions were bred solely from a mutual respect, so she wasn’t sure whether the girl was trying to get herself hurt, not paying attention or actually following the professor’s instructions.

Des bit her lower lip and then let out a long breath before approaching a Hippogriff herself. She’s not nervous but more excited since approaching Hippogriffs is tricky business. Des tucks her hair behind an ear, pushing her robes back away from her feet and bows; her eyes are kept on the creature’s talon

----
Des doesn’t answer the question even though she knows part of the answer to the question. Her eyes wander towards Paisley who is approaching the Hippogriff and she gets ready to take her turn with a Hippogriff of her own, waiting to see if the creature will bow back.

Care of Magical Creatures was one of these subjects that came rather natural to Ninlil, mostly because she had spent her childhood on a dragon reservation, surrounded by the most majestic of all creatures in her mind. She liked that those classes often took place outside, enjoying the breeze that swayed her skirt and her hair as she approached the place where the class was meeting. Today’s topic was a rather obvious one, mainly because there were hippogriffs walking around behind Professor Minami. There was something dangerous about those talons and the beaks, yet Ninny was not afraid. In fact, she was eager to pet them, but she had read about the etiquette concerning hippogriffs before and did not want to walk straight into one of them - especially not as there were questions to answer, which she would gladly do. The small eagle waited for a moment, dark chocolate eyes grazing the silhouettes of her sisters before one delicate hand was raised, ready to answer the question.

“Unlike a griffin, a hippogriff has no lion parts, but the head and front legs of an eagle and the body and hind legs of a horse,” Ninlil explained quietly, before she lowered her hand again and prepared herself to face one of the majestic creatures. With timid steps, she approached one of them. This one had a black and sleek body, beautiful and dangerous at the same time - yet was it not the case with most magical creatures. Nervously, Ninny ran a hand through her hair before bowing her head, hoping that this hippogriff would be good-natured enough to accept her approach.

All she had asked for were dragons - and all Delany got were hippogriffs instead, terribly disappointing creatures due to their severe lack of scales and fangs. A beak and wings might be kinda cool, and still she was always sad when dragons were once more just a chapter in a book. Then again, she had seen with her own two eyes what dragons could do; Finlay being the best example for it - as well as her friend Inanna, who was scarred by a dragon’s force as well. So it was hippogriffs today, and she kicked some dirt around on the ground while listening to Professor Minami’s explanations. Maybe this was going to be more of an adventure than expected - who knew, maybe she would even be able to make the creature bow for her? But first, there was always the instructions that kept her from running towards the nearest hippogriff in utter excitement, mostly because out of all Storm children, she had always prided herself with being one of the more reasonable ones - the only girl who looked for a flock of brothers, after all.

Lany did not pay much attention to questions that were asked and answered, and soon wandered off to find herself a hippogriff to bow too. His feathers and body displayed different shades of grey, and eyes were the colour of amber. He was beautiful in every way possible, and for a few moments the Storm girl just stared at the hybrid creature before blinking and taking a careful step forwards. Those talons and the beak could easily be turned against her, and she really did not want to know how that would feel. Slowly, her messy bun bobbing on her head, Delany bowed her head as if she was meeting the Queen of England - although that old lady would probably not dig her eyes out if she found her unpleasant.

__
Lany is always disappointed about the severe lack of dragons, but she listens and decides to bow to one of the hippogriffs, let’s see how that goes.

Paisley looked up slightly, afraid that she hadn't bowed long enough to gain the respect of the beautiful creature that she was faced with. Happily, the badger saw that the hippogriff had bowed as well, leading Paisley to believe that she had now exactly what she was supposed too do. Trying not to seem overly excited, the small girl slowly straightened up, taking a moment to take in the sheer beauty and power of the creature infront of her. Truth be told, she never imagined that she would actually get the honor of potentially petting a hippogriff. Sure, it was something that other students had talked about in the past, but the naive sixth year never thought she would get lucky enough. As someone who throughly enjoyed care of magical creatures class, she should have known that this was bound to happen one day soon. Today was that day.

He asked a question? Paisley hadn't a clue. She looked back slightly to see one of the Amar-sin girls answer the question, for which she didn't hear, and then turned back towards her hippogriff. Taking a deep breath, the Ravenclaw girl slowly moved forward to approach the hippogriff, a small outstretch hand leading the way.
