Do you have more than one character? If yes, did you get permission to make this one, and from which admin?: No.
Appearance: (Optional - leave blank if not filled in)
Scoll Vandersnatch is a young man crippled by his rather mundane features. Dark hair, brown eyes and a face that he himself could only describe as 'mushy'. Granted, he's not an ugly young man by any means of the word but he certainly wasn't one you could or rather would pick out of a crowd. This often played to his strengths, but he more often considered it his weakness.

On his chest and on some areas of his arms sat tattoos, a traditional and cultural staple of the gypsy-magic community he hailed from, nothing too imposing, rather embarrassed of this he goes through great lengths to hide them, both magical and mundane.

Personality: (600 word minimum)
Scoll at first glance, both in features and personality was a rather mundane person to say the least. In his time at school, he had managed to fly under the radar almost entirely, unseen and unknown. Rarely did he ever have a speaking acquaintance with anyone and to be honest, he found great comfort in that.

But as his time in school slowly ticked away, he took it upon himself to become more social... A word he dreaded more than all the big bad words he had seen in his books. Scoll was for the most part, not an awkward person, if only because he had never quite had the opportunity to make a fool of himself. Until now he tended to engage in what he would call 'a comfortable silence', which made him a rather perfect listener, or by most definitions, eavesdropper...

He was a rather studious man, taking a particular liking to defense against the dark arts and all things to do with magical creatures. Upon meeting him, most would find his dry wit to be a relief. He often found when he spoke, the most he could muster was sarcasm. Though once he warmed to someone, he can be a warm and authentic person - given the opportunity. He much preferred the company of a good book to those of his peers, or at least this was the excuse he decided he would use to subvert his nervousness at the idea of new people.

He was prone to gloom and almost romanticized his melancholy in his writings. He was a great fan of poetry and often found himself writing it about the people who walked the halls who had never noticed him. Occasionally he had his moments of bravery, where he would slip notes of his secret admiration - charmed to veil his identity.

In his time at Hogwarts he had only gotten attention once, in his first two years he received a rather brutal bullying which prompted an inglorious nervous breakdown bordering on violent outburst. He often fond himself recalling the incident with great venom, more often than not siding with those who bullied him, 'it builds character', he would chide, echoing the words of his late father. During the scuffle of this incident. a swing gone wrong earned him a crooked nose and a missing tooth for longer than he would have preferred, earning him the nickname of 'Snaggletooth', a name most who were aware of the incident, took to calling him.

Though despite all of this, the boy didn't hold a great amount of venom or bitterness for the upperclassmen who bullied him in his youth and through great time and thought, forgave them. Not personally of course, he could never speak to them, look at them, or engage with them again, but he came to terms with that. A pragmatist and a diplomat at heart, his ideas were rarely clouded with bitterness or resentment, though occasionally, this pragmatism led to a perceived self-hatred, looking at himself objectively - he was rarely impressed.

But just as he didn't allow his bitterness for others to infect his actions, he didn't allow it to possess his ambitions either and in a rather curious paradox, he thought a lot more of himself than he did others, self-loathing all the same.

This year for him has become a quest, to earn a name for himself, perhaps in the history books or maybe even just a photo with a new club, in all frank honesty all Scoll hopes for in his final two years is evidence of his existence at all. The size of his ambitions are so far undecided, but he hopes to find a place for himself in this school and in this wizarding world.

Character Background: (600 word minimum)[/b]
Scoll Vandersnatch had a rather tumultous past which he often didn't like mentioning. Born of an Irish muggle family and the Vandersnatches, a rather 'infamous' group of settled Travellers in the West of Ireland whose existence in the early 1900s was clouded with rumors of crime and all-around notoriety. Victor Vandersnatch, Scoll's father married a young woman named Margaret O'Connor and the two emigrated to London, Victor was a man of grand ambition who was not without his faults and hoped to 'change the ways of his family' and the way they were viewed by society.

Victor was a big burly man of great acclaim for his skill in bare-knuckle boxing and his talent at some of the more blunt uses of magic, Margaret was a young muggle woman much like Scoll almost crippled by her mundanity. This curious pair of parents led to a rather difficult time for the young Vandersnatch, being parented by two almost op-positional figures ideologically.

His youth was an uneasy and awkward time as most people's youths are, as his lanky frame filled out and his raven hair and green eyes set in, in his appearance he took after neither the red-headed Vandersnatches or the mostly Blonde O'Connor's. Often described as an "enchanted rake" by his less than cunning cousins who in their adolescence had all become the big burly men they were expected to be. Being the black sheep made him an easy target to his family, and being a Vandersnatch made him an easy target for everyone else. This unfortunate turn of events led to his youth boasting an almost permanent black eye, sometimes both, sometimes either.

Despite his less-than-formidable figure in efforts to impress his father, he was a scrappy young boy and often found himself in fights - usually by no doing of his own, but occasionally he did bring it on himself. Eventually as he grew out of what he considered his 'rebellious' years the bullying and abuse both from his family and the world led to a rather short temper, which he had learned to control, for the most part.

A pragmatist and a diplomat at heart, these periodic outbursts of violence could usually be subverted by a moment of rational thought, but these situations didn't allow for that by nature. One could only presume that these moments of aggression were a souvenir kindly left to him by his father, who held a very complicated relationship with his boy.

In his early years, the two were close but as the differences became more apparent and Scoll drifted away from his father's idea of a man, the two became more short-tempered and frustrated with each other which made their home-life, less than ideal. One could describe the disputes as abuse, but in all honesty it was often Scoll who swung first.

After a few years of this in his early adolescence, Scoll was sent to Hogwarts in the hope that the distance would straighten him out and improve the family relationship. In his first two years he managed to make a few friends here and there, like him - mostly quiet and humble, but his temper often got the better of him as it became more apparent what an easy target he was.

Gaining the nickname of 'Snaggletooth' after a particularly nasty brawl with two upperclassmen who struck a nerve as they joked about his 'gypsy background'. Losing two front teeth and a nose that could only be described as 'busted', both were quickly remedied thanks to an unfortunate concoction of magical poultices, but the event served as a constant reminder that he was an outsider.

After this the few peers he had acquired quickly distanced himself and he became a quiet and reclusive boy, finding company in books and other hobbies. Soon, people forgot about the incident, and in all honesty, they forgot about him too. Slipping beneath the radar his rare social interactions were fleeting and short-lived. Taking a liking to eavesdropping to sate his social needs, the morality of it plagued him sometimes, but he dismissed it as a necessary evil.

In the third year of his time in Hogwarts, Victor Vandersnatch, his father passed away in a rather unfortunate incident with the Vandersnatch Security Firm who had since become a reputable team of magical bodyguards, rumors of illicit activity and criminal goods soon rose to the surface, but were rather suspiciously quickly dismissed.

The loss of his father didn't plague him as much as he thought it should, but given the great distance between them and the fact he had come to terms with the lack of his father's approval, things hadn't changed all that much at all.

Returning in his fourth year, as the clock ticked on his time in Hogwarts, he decided he would make an effort, make it his quest to do something with himself. This would be 'his year', whether the school would accept that or not... was another question.

The Sorting Hat is placed on your head. What are you thinking at that moment?: (A few sentences in-character is fine, eg. Are you nervous? What house are you hoping for? What house are you not hoping for? Why?)
Scoll sat nervously on the chair as a young 13 year old boy, just off the train he was hopeful for his future, but entirely consumed by anxiety and nerves. As the sorting hat rifled through his thoughts, images of a dark past, lit only by the company of books and a comforting mother came to fruition and a sincere lack of positive memories of others, a rather reclusive set of memories populated by almost exclusively his family.

The sorting hat could likely feel the bead of sweat that trickled down Scoll's head as his mind darted from the excitement to anxiety and back again like the pendulum of a clock. He envisioned his future and the peers he thought he would make, an eager excitement to acquaint himself with the school and all of its nooks and crannies.
