”The wind is my hero..."

The overcast sky swirled with subtle patterns that teased the eyes of anyone who tried to make since of them. A light mist made the air feel heavy and threatened to fill the rest of the day with yet another bout of rain. Occasionally, the wind would sigh and causing the landscape to stir during its otherwise deep slumber. As if agitated by the disturbance, the trees would shake their leafy heads, causing miniature showers to fall on unsuspecting folk.

The rough tree bark pressed into Rode’s back as she supported herself with its trunk. Moisture seeped into her clothes as the ground cradled the rest of her. With pale skin and hair the color of dying embers, she stuck out amongst the muted earth tones of her surroundings. Peeking out from the bag next to her was an assortment of study equipment that had been forgotten in favor of an earthworm who was visiting the surface world.

“Well aren’t you a brave little creature, It's dangerous up here for something like you.” noted the young woman as she scooped the wiggling critter with a handful of mud. She spoke softly, her voice punctuated with an Irish lilt. As if in response to her comment, it exposed more of its tubular body to the damp spring air before diving back into the moist earth.

“I wonder what it’s like to be you. It can’t be very exciting, eternally tunneling through darkness with no destination. Maybe you’re different though. I mean, there must be a reason you came here after all. Are you an adventurer? Or maybe you’re just lost.” Rode gingerly placed the handful of dirt containing the worm back on the ground. Attempting to clean the rest of the muck from her hands, she gave them a hard shake followed by brushing them off on her knees.

She wished it farewell and good luck as it disappeared back into the bowls of the planet. “If you ever happen by me again, maybe I’ll show you something new.” She whispered quietly after it with a sigh. “But probably not.”

Liam Andrews was often found outside, if he wasn't in the library. While the library was one of the young man's hideaways from the world, the eagle also liked to do things with his hands. So it was out to the greenhouses that he went for a bit of planting, watering, and generally enjoying the little bit of green that they had to offer the world. Outside it was dreary and spring had not quite touched the grounds of Hogwarts- though if the rain was any indication, it was trying. At least the flurries had turned into the soft misting that was happening right now. He supposed that he ought to be going back to the castle soon. The eagle had hoped that maybe the rain would let up and he would go visit the mermaid in the lake, but that didn't seem to be Mother natures plans for the day.

Wiping his hands of the potting soil that he had been using, the young man exited the greenhouses and looked up at the sky. The clouds were swirling and billowing. The air had that distinct smell of rain and Liam knew that it would only be a matter of time before the clouds opened and the rain poured from the heavens rather than the fine mist that was hitting his face right now. He pulled the hood of his sweatshirt up anyways, not that it would do a super lot to protect his face, but it was something. His hands burrowed into the pockets of his jeans, keeping them protected from the combined combination of the air temperature, the misting and the slight amount of wind that was in the air.

He started to walk, make his way to the castle and the little bit of warmth that the castle would offer - it was dry at least, even if the school was notorious for being on the cooler side. His blue eyes wandered around as he moved towards the castle, slightly disappointed that the weather was going to keep him from going to the lake. He supposed he could use charms to protect himself from the environment and go there anyways, but he knew that the chances of Nasha showing up in this type of weather was probably slim to none, so the eagle was going to skip that little bit of an adventure today. His fingers in his right pocket curled around the seashell that she had given him and a smile formed on his thin lips. A promise between them to keep the secret that she was even in the lake.

His eyes fell on a figure that had her back against the tree. She seemed to be talking to herself, or something that her hand was holding. Liam couldn't see from where he was what it was, but he knew the girl. "Rode!" he called out, his voice raising above the wind and the mist, as well as enough to cover the distance between them. "It's going to rain!"

Rode’s pale eyes remained glued to the spot the squirmy creature had just been. After a few minutes of silent watching, the young lioness figured the worm wasn’t coming back. Likely, it had only poked its head out from its hole on accident. It was just as well, the surface world was just not a safe place for an animal like him. Even if he made it past the early birds and the boots of the unsuspecting, he had to deal with well-intentioned adventurer wanting to take him on her escapades. The red head closed her eyes and smiled at the notion.

As the breeze teased the girl’s hair, she imagined herself as the captain of a pirate ship. The light spring mist turned into the salty ocean spray. The water swirled as the brewing storm around her. As the sails whipped wildly in the wind, she fought the gales for control over the boat. Rode opened her eyes again, and shook her head. Definitely not a safe situation for an earthworm. There wasn’t enough dirt on a ship, for one and it also would have probably been swept away in the storm. The world was a cruel place for such small, vulnerable critters.

In the distance, the red head heard a vaguely familiar voice yell her name. It was barely audible thanks to the wind and sprinkling rain so she couldn’t quite place who was speaking. She sat up and looked about for the source of the shout. Even with the poor visibility, her eyes were able to pinpoint the caller. It was a fellow student, a Ravenclaw named Liam. She had seen him around the grounds on several occasions and they had spoken once or twice. He was nice and seemed to share some of the same interests that she did.

No particularly wanting to engage in a shouting match with the eagle, the lioness stood and dusted the moist earth off the back of her skirt. With a soft sigh, she stretched, her muscles stiff from being curled up so long in the chilly spring air, then gathered her things. As she started towards Liam in a gentle but steady jog, she heard him call out something else. Rode wasn’t quite able to make out what he was saying but she was fairly certain is was something about the rain. Her pale brow furrowed as she tried to think of what he was trying to get across when a fat drop hit her dead on the nose.

It took mere seconds for the weather to turn from just overcast and brooding to a full-on shower. The young woman lifted her bag above her head in an attempt to stop the onslaught of water droplets intent on assaulting her but had little success in keeping herself dry. She cursed herself for not being better prepared for such a scenario before remembering that she was a witch. Briefly, she stopped to, pull out her want a cast a spell to help keep the rain off. That was better. At least now she wouldn’t get completely drenched.

Continuing her journey, the lioness soon arrived within speaking distance of the other student. “What was that about the rain?”

Thunderstorms had and always would bring a smile to the eagle's lips. It reminded him of his childhood when the young boy would stand in the garage with his father, watching the water impale on the earth, the trees dancing in the storm as the wind guided their movements. It had always made him squeal with laughter and excitement; the two of them had spent hours watching from the safety of the rooftop in the garage. Of course that was before Liam had known about magic and being able to keep himself dry in the storms. His laughter came above the wind and the droplets that pelleted the two students on the grounds. He lifted his hands to the storm and looked up, purposely catching the drops on his face and tongue, squinting slightly even as he enjoyed the wetsness. Soon he'd be drenched and need to go inside, but for now, the eagle enjoyed mother nature's fun.

His tongue caught the liquid and he swallowed, his hair became soaked. He looked back at the girl next to him to find that she had casted a charm to protect her from the rain but he just grinned at her, his hands returning to his sides as he grinned. "I said it's going to rain, and look, it has." He laughed and took some playful steps towards her, but the eagle didn't know her well enough to be playful - that was something that was reserved for when he was with Kiska.

How many times had he, Kiska and JR ran out into rain storms in their younger years, enjoying the wetness all over them, laughing and pushing each other in the mud and just generally being the trio that they were known for? How many times had the young man sat by a window as a storm came in since fifth year and wished for those sweet moments to come back as memories plagued him? Liam didn't have the answers, bt now that he was caught in this storm he could tell you that it was perfect - the rain would soon have him shivering with cold and running inside but in this moment - this moment was bliss for the Ravenclaw that had missed the times that he had spent with his muggle father watching the rain from the garage or running through the lawns with his two best friends without a care in the world.

Those times had passed though; Liam could only hope to make new memories now. With the fleeting memories he took off towards the castle, although he turned back to the lioness that was standing there in the rain, protected. "Come on," he yelled out over the wind, his face clearly expressing his happiness, his giddiness, his excitement over the storm. "This is fun!"

Rain had never been something that had bothered the red head. There had been days where she would come home soaked from the rain or from playing in left over puddles. Many a new dress had been ruined from falling into muddy holes or playing by the creek near her home. It would drive her mother crazy, of course. She was afraid Rode would fall ill or seriously injure herself. Her fears weren’t unwarranted. The lioness had quite the scar collection from an uncountable number of skinned knees and elbows, cuts and bruises, and even a few broken bones she had acquired.

The faint sound of thunder pealed through the air. The lioness looked around as if expecting to see the accompanying spark of lightening fill the sky. Her face turned to her fellow student and she grinned when he mentioned the rain. “Yeah, so it has,” she said, matching his chuckle with a soft laugh. “No surprises there. At least it’s not snowing anymore. Maybe we’ll have some warmer days ahead.” The idea of spring made the girl excited. While winter had its exciting moments, like the first few days of snow and Christmas and New Year’s celebrations but once the end of January hit, she was ready to move on.

Come on! This is fun!” And with that, the eagle sped off towards the school. Running in the rain looked tempting but Rode hesitated for a second then uncast the charm keeping her dry from everything except her bag. There was no need to ruin her things. With an excited shout she sped off after Liam, her feet pounding against the softening earth. She laughed once again as she tried to catch up. After pushing herself into a sprint, the girl finally made it next to the wizard. “You’re right! This is fun!” Her words came between short little gasps for air.

It hadn’t taken long for the water to plaster her coppery hair to her face and neck. Her clothes were sodden, the blouse clung to her skin and her skirt, now heavy with water, twisted and tangled itself around her legs as she ran. The canvas of that made up her shoes was not waterproof in the least and they squelched with every step through the now muddy field. While her exhilaration kept her warm now, she was sure that she would feel the chill later on down in her bones. Not that she cared, this was fun. “So,” she panted, “what brings you out here?
