Healing was a process that JR hadn't ever considered that he would be able to partake in. His piercing green eyes watched the silhouette of the sky as he let out a deep breath and leaned against the bark of the tree he was sitting under. There was barely any buds on the branches of the tree, let alone any leaves. JR rested his head back against the trunk of the tree, his Gryffindor beanie bunching up against the hair on his head as his eyes never strayed from the line that was a mixture of red, orange and golden colors as the sun was fading for the day. He had never imagined that he would be in this position, where he could actually feel freedom from Kilsha.

Finding out her last name had helped more than he had ever thought would - was it that the young man thought that he might've even encountered someone who was like her? Someone else mad for her death. JR hadn't decided. His legs stretched out in front of him, fingers resting in the pocket of his sweatshirt as he sat with his kitten, Chance. JR hadn't ever thought he would be at this point; where he could relax under the tree without having an anxiety attack without having run five miles before hand. It wasn't perfect and the emotions came still, but at the same time, it was different. Kilsha Leander wasn't going to hurt him anymore. Kilsha Leander was Erik's aunt. Erik, his best friend, could also be called his cousin now. JR still wasn't sure what that all meant, but he did know that it meant that not all of his mother's family was bad.

Which left the young man with relief in his chest, as he sat there under the branches of the tree, the cool air caressing his face softly as he watched the colors of the sky blend together. Besides, everything was more light hearted and freedom filled the teenage boy's soul because Kiska was home. Kiska Ferdenova - the girl he was sure one day, he would marry, was back - there was residual hurt the girl had left in the first place, but there was absolutely nothing JR would let get in between the two. Closing his eyes, he could see her face, every beautiful line and feature, the adoring blue eyes, loving ones that stared up with him full of trust as he kissed the girl silly.

His eyes opened again to focus on the skyline as his body relaxed, fingers still stroking the fur of his kitten tucked away from the wind in the pocket of the blue cloth over JR's stomach. His smile was contagious, his mood was infectious and his life was turning around in a way the lion had never expected. Hearing footsteps off to this left, he turned his head, giving the young woman whom approached a smile. "Happy Spring!" he exclaimed, the greeting laced with an underlying joy she probably wouldn't understand. He nodded his head slightly before turning back to the skyline, exhaling a soft breath. Yes, it was a beautiful evening.

It wasn't unusual that the ever quiet little badger would spend even just a few minutes of spring outside during the night - though prettier during the day according to her humble opinion. New year, new life, new beginnings. Melancholy had taken over the Hufflepuff as she slowly walked in between the lawn's thawing hedges. Her jacket held tightly around her for warmth. The lamp lights did little to help the girl stay cozy, but that did not stop her from taking in the fresh spring air and the wonderfully starlit sky. Although, why was it that there were always things that fell whenever Aki was around JR. This time was the girl's guard. The greeting was abrupt as it was loud, and if it was compared to the young witch's - using her voice as the medium for normalcy - JR's was the loud boom of a firework that masked every noise in a two-mile radius.

An almost quiet squeak came from the girl's chords as she ducked in fear her hands which once tugged the corners of her jacket for warmth positioned themselves above her head for protection. Until she realized, "Happy..." there was a short pause as she looked up to see a familiar boy in front of her, "... spring?"

From a way to warm herself, to a position of protection, until it turned into a twiddle of timidness. Her hands clasped together in her nervousness. The last she'd seen JR was when he'd fled from her, it was a recurring instance, and Aki knew all too well by that time that there would be something she would end up tugging at the boy's past or present circumstances that may make him run away from her. The older lion was almost, if not, two times larger, but somehow Aki wasn't the one in the running end.

The wind still blew a hint of winter, and the badger shivered lightly, she only meant for a small walk around the lawns. She'd met JR only a few times, but every time felt like yesterday because of how often she thought about why the wizard was flighty. He'd never mentioned anything about himself, and it was hard for her to talk to others, so naturally, their relationship was stuck at being acquaintances. Relationships with other people didn't bother Aki ever since summer, but the only thing that did make her uneasy is if those whom she sees around her was in pain. At that moment, however, JR seemed very happy. Aki wondered why as she'd only seen the boy with a scowl or a sad look on his face, never a smile, but it was pleasant. She was happy that the once grumpy acquaintance of hers allowed himself a smile.

It took a moment for the young man to realize whom he had shouted at. Aki was a girl whom he had met a few times before, but it seemed that the young man had always ended up running away because of personal issues, drama, traumatic events - however one wanted to look at it, JR hadn't been able to answer the questions the Hufflepuff girl had when she asked them and he had run away. That was the lion's coping method with everything - run away. He couldn't remember what the questions had been; he couldn't even remember how he had made up lame excuses other than he had and run away. What else could he have done when upset? Fighting was in his blood and it was something JR avoided at all costs for this reason.

Even if it didn't always work - hadn't he just gotten into an altercation with the Gryffindor Prefect and found himself in detention even if he had only been trying to help the other boy? It reminded him of his roommate Quincy Elkins and JR sighed softly, shifting under the tree. It seemed he had scared the girl and he was sorry for his past behaviors. "Hey," he smiled at Aki. "It's just a good day. Spring is coming. Were you coming to sit under this tree, too?" As though JR was inviting her, he shifted over, his back scraping against the bark as he slid to the right.

A moment passed and the young man pulled his wand out, before hesitating. Hadn't he given out enough warming charms without warning and learned from it. Yet, Erik's face filled his mind, smiling at him - that was how the two boys had become friends, after all. Even though Paisley hadn't enjoyed the help - or at the very least, seemed not to like it, the young man couldn't help himself. Whispering the words to the warming charm as he pointed his wand at the young woman still watching him timidly, he spoke again, "I'm sorry, if I ever hurt your feelings. I wasn't in a good place. I'm still not really, but I'm working on it, you know?"

His piercing green eyes went back to the setting sun in the skyline, his smile disappearing, if ever so slightly. As good as things had become, JR knew that he wasn't out of the woods yet. Seeing Kilsha's face when he was being yelled at by the younger student had proved that. Running from people was another hint of it. Hadn't Quincy been the first to point that out, so long ago? Shifting a bit, JR stuffed his fingers back into his pockets, focusing on the sun. He could get through this. With Kiska as his girlfriend and by his side, he could get through it all.

How was it that his fantastic mood had only lasted a short while, anyways? Deep down, JR knew the answer. Seeing Aki had changed his focus from happiness to how much he still needed to heal and be able to answer personal questions without running away. Maybe today was a good day to try and start, if she accepted the invitation to sit down and talk with him.
