He was drunk.

Did it matter why? Not really, in the end. Was it something new? Most definitely not, as the young man often attended parties or went out to Hogsmeade for some fun, not to mention spent time in hidden away spots of the castle and the grounds, both drinking and smoking.Of course, the young man knew better than to wander around the castle when he was so drunk, so the lion had ended up in the kitchens instead of going all the way to his dorm after the events of the night. His eyes were dancing as he sang at the top of his lungs - badly, at that - moving around the room as he swayed his his hips to a beat that only Brydon Wilkins could hear in his head.

Along the counters was what seemed to be all the contents of the refrigerator in the corner of the kitchens, Brydon moving around eating leftovers and eating everything and anything in sight, barely taking the time to build the sandwich before taking a bite and then needing to go back and add cheese to the guts of the thing. His off key singing became muted for a few moments as he took a bite and then used the sandwich as a microphone before bursting into a laughing fit. He didn't even know what he was singing, but it sounded bad to his own ears. Something about kissing a girl. Or a boy. When he was this drunk, it was usually about his best friend, whether or not he admitted it any other time was a different story.

It did not matter that he reeked of alcohol, that the house elves would probably rat him out - wouldn't be the first time that had happened in his life, right? Nor did it matter that he was drunk just for the fun of it. He reached in his leather jacket pocket and made a disgruntled face as he came up empty. There would be no smoking after the magnificent sandwich that he was eating, something that was probably good to the sober person - It would probably be bad to light up inside of the kitchens, after all.

Brown eyes danced with redness mixed in, making it easy to notice right away that the young man had been drinking, teeth tore into the bread and the meat of the sandwich like there was no tomorrow, because damn, the boy was hungry. He couldn't remember anymore who he had gone out drinking with because it wasn't his best friend. The lion had half a mind to make the trek to the dungeons and find the snake - but how would he get into that common room, much less explain why he was curled up outside of it? No, even drunk Brydon was able to piece together that was not a good idea. Still, he was so lost in his own world that the young man did not notice that someone had pushed open the kitchens' door. Let alone the fact that the person was a professor.

Chai Beauvelle was at her first term of teaching. Maybe she wasn't cut out for teaching, and she should go back to healing at Mungo's? Chai wasn't a good role model for the children to begin with. She wasn't good enough to come up with fun lessons for her students. And she was flirty. Not with her students of course but, she flirted publicly with her colleagues. Unprofessional. The celebrity just wanted to go back to her old job. That would make it easier, and at least she would be in a practice that she was used to.

"I should just come to Nora's wing as a healer. Teaching isn't my style," she said to herself as she headed towards the kitchens with a lamp on hand. Why? Well, a house elf had come in a frantic fit looking for a professor who was awake late enough. That professor was Chai, spending the whole night contemplating about how to change from teaching to healing instead. The elf had told her of another incident. Another incident? So this wasn't the first time? Great.

Opening the door to the Kitchens. She looked more like a student than that of a professor. Wearing a gray Quidditch hoodie, a pair of shorts and sneakers with the same gray shade, and a white shirt underneath.

"Okay who's been scaring the el-" Chai stopped midway. There at the counter was a student she recognized. Brydon Wilkins. Drunk and had no possession of mental capacity as he sang to a sandwich at three in the morning. The healing professor put a hand on her hip while the other covered her face in shame. "Sweet baby unicorns..."

The woman then walked towards the young man and felt his face. It was hot. Literally. And Brydon reeked of alcohol and spirits. It was cheap liquor too. Chai could tell. Yep. This boy is hammered. The witch left the boy alone with his sandwich. If that was even a sandwich at all and shooed away the remaining house elves that were ogling. Reaching the pantry and taking out some actual ingredients for a proper sandwich. Using her wand, the professor enchanted the kitchen to prepare the food while she headed off to the small cupboard that housed the clean towelettes and before she could forget flicked over to the pantry to get a glass and cold water for the drunk student. With that done Chai headed back to the boy and pulled a chair down for him to sit.

"Sit down." she said gently and turned over to take the sandwich, a proper one, and placed it on the counter just beside Brydon. "Eat and drink. It'll help in the morning and maybe saturate the alcohol you've been drinking." the woman added as she poured cold water on the glass just beside the plate of food.

It wasn't any use scolding a student who clearly had no sense of whatever at that level of drunkenness. So Chai being used to being in a drunken stupor knew fully well how to take care of someone who was this drunk.

Brydon hadn't noticed that small gathering of house elves that were watching him with big, ogling eyes as he danced and sang to his ham and turkey sandwich. A smile graced his his features as he danced and sang loudly off key, "You can't tell me this feelin' is wrong.." His voice was off pitch and awful, but it was fun and there wasn't a worry to be had. That's what drinking was for in the first place, wasn't it? It was so that the heart was dulled to a low ache rather than a lion's roar. His teeth took another bite into the sandwich and it was going to be gone much sooner than the boy wanted it to. He needed a smoke after this, too. His lungs craved to be blowing the nicotine and it would help the shakes eventually.

He was so busy dancing and singing that he didn't notice the person - the adult that came into the kitchens until she was literally touching him. "Hey, what're you doing?" His row furrowed and his heart started pounding in double time mode,. "Get off me, don't touch me." Brydon twisted away from the person, spinning and shifting his footing, moving to put the island between the two of them as fast as stumbling feet could get him there - it was lucky he didn't trip and hurt himself, really. A slight panic had started to form within him - even the alcohol couldn't make it so all the memories were gone from his consciousness even if Bry wanted them to be.

His face flushed even further as he realized that this was not his father, but another adult, a teacher probably, considering the that he was at school. His hand reached out to the counter to steady himself as he swayed slightly, his brain trying to work out what was going on. He just wanted to eat. Why was that a crime? Why was this woman shoving things into his face and telling him to sit down and eat. Wasn't he already eating? There was a fog that seemed to be filtered in. His breath was uneven as the young man stood there, watching her. Bry resisted her touch and her words.

"D-Don't tell me what to do." His words were all slurred together - as they had been earlier when the boy was having his slight melt down. "Don't touch me either," he muttered, his eyes moving more downcast, shifting his feet. The lion took another bite of his sandwich, chewing slowly and swallowing. This tasted so good. What was that in the middle of it? Mustard? Whatever it was, the boy approved of the extra taste in the middle of the meats and the bed. Already forgetting the woman in his stupor, his brain moved on to the sensations of the tastes on his tongue. This was much better. Where was Stan? Where was a girl to kiss? Surely he could find someone to join him in bed tonight. But first, the sandwich needed to be finished.
