Cool, spring air burned at Quin’s throat as heavy breathes left out of her lungs in rapid puffs. It felt good be outside, blood pumping through her body with each beat of her heart, it’s rhythm elevated by her current physical activity. The sun had barely started peeking up over the horizon, filling the lioness a renewed sense of energy. Despite how much she enjoyed her morning runs, it was sometimes difficult to find the motivation to roll out of bed at five, when the sun was still down and the cold air nipped at her bare toes whenever she left the protection of her bedspread

She had been out for about half an hour and was about half finished with her usual route. While it wasn’t her best time, Quin didn’t really mind. She would still have more than plenty of time to get in a quick shower before classes started. Despite the fact that she had been itching to get going, she had managed to muster the willpower to make her bed and lay out her uniform, towel and other necessities for when she got back. As such, she figured there was plenty of time to stop and take a brief break before booking it back to the school.

The lioness decided to stop at the lake, perching herself on a rock next to the dark, inky shore. The waves that lapped against the muddy bank, producing the gentle, soothing sound of gurgling water. Once she was sat down, Quin slid the straps of her running bag off her shoulders and plopped it down in the damp dirt next to her. Bending over, she pulled it open and pulled out a bottle of water. As she popped the top, the lioness looked out over the landscape, watching the sun being pulled up from its slumber in the dark depths of the Earth.

The cool liquid felt good as it slid down Quin’s throat. Her breathing had slowed, as had her heart rate as she relaxed for a bit. She then reached back into her bag and pulled out a peanut butter flavored granola bar. Once she had undown the wrapper, she sank her teeth into the morsel. She finished it in about three bites and washed it down with a swig of her drink before she tucked the trash back into her bag along with her water bottle. Not wanting to sit too long, she stood and stretched her arms, with a long, contented sigh.

Deciding that she wasn’t quite ready to start running again, Quin decided to do a few quick stretches. It felt good to relieve some of the stiffness that had already started building up in her muscles.Normally, she didn’t have problems, however she had slacked off a little over the weekend thanks to a head cold she had developed the previous Friday. Even now, there was still a little pressure in her sinuses, but nothing she couldn’t deal with.

Quin had just been about to start off again, shouldering her bag and bouncing all the balls of her feet to pump herself back up, when she caught sight of a lone figure coming towards her. There weren’t many other students who got up so early, let alone went out in the cold to exercise. Most other people her age liked their sleep, and she couldn’t blame them. However, she enjoyed her time in the mornings as well and didn’t mind getting up before the sunrise. At first, she considered just taking off before the other person saw her but by the time she had made her decision, it was too late. Instead, she put on a smile and waved at the newcomer, jogging lazily over to him. “Hey! What brings you out here this morning.?”

Soon, the coldness wouldn't bite at the skin of anyone who dared to step outside, especially when the sun was not awake and in the sky. JR would be able to run across the grounds at Hogwarts without a shirt and to feel a little freer. Soon, he wouldn't need to run a mile or two before his sweatshirt came off in the early morning. It was much like how soon, the sun would rise in the east, bringing orange, yellow and red rays all across the sky. The stars would be overruled by the yellow orb coming to tell this part of the world that it was time to get up - or at least, it would for some people. He knew most teenagers would rather sleep far into the morning before wanting to get up. Except there was classes today, so there would many grumbling students eventually dragging themselves from the covers of their warm bed.

JR had left his dorm room over an hour prior at this point however, with his favorite black sweatshirt tugged over his head, thin mittens on his hands and a red and gold beanie on his head. He also worn black sweatpants with sneakers to match. With all of the black, he felt like his best friend Erik for a moment - or a shadow in the night, slipping through the castle quietly and out to the grounds. It had been a while since he had gotten caught and he certainly didn't plan on being caught tonight. His piercing green eyes were always searching for movement, trying to spot people before they might spot him, but usually the young man was safe once he made it out of the castle. Before JR came back to the castle it would be early morning, a more acceptable time to be awake, which meant he wouldn't need to worry too much about sneaking back into the castle.

Now, his breathing was labored and sweat was collecting on his brow on the beanie. His gloves had been pushed into his pocket long ago and as he slowed, JR thought about pulling the sweatshirt off his head and leaving behind a white t-shirt. He continued to walk, the lake off in the distance straight ahead - where he had spent one night the prior summer kissing the girl he loved. It was a fond memory and JR smiled as his footsteps paused. His sweatshirt came off and the beanie went back on his head before wrapping the bulky material around his waist. The smile stayed as the memory replying in his mind - wading through the waters, wrapping her in his arms, kissing her - it was a very good and sweet moment.

Piercing green eyes shifted as he heard a voice. Apparently as he had paused, someone had spotted him. Shrugging since they at least sounded like they weren't going to get in trouble, he moved forward again. Besides, all he was doing was running. Who was going to get him into trouble for that. "Took a run," he answered as he approached the girl. JR couldn't remember her name, although he did know she was another Gryffindor. Taking in her stance and clothing, he nodded. "Looks like you did too. Are you headed back or wanna keep going?"

As the other student approached, Quin stilled her bouncing feet and took a wide stance, arms behind her back. Her pony tail ticked the back of her neck and the girl shook her head to resettle the fiery hair, not having much luck, she reach up and flicked it so that it laid over her shoulder. Having been inactive for several minutes now, she could start to feel the coolness of the morning creep up on her again. Her choice in leggings had likely not been the best for today’s weather, as the air cut straight through them. Once she got moving again, it would be fine. Still, she wanted something a bit warmer than her grey, ‘Working out for the Apocalypse’ tank top. She swung her bag around to her front and dug around in it, trying not to pull out all of her junk along with her jacket.

Once her navy blue coat was fred from her bag, she pulled it on and buttoned it up. Technically, the piece of clothing didn’t belong to her. It was Gabe’s, one of her cousins and closest friends. The most rambunctious out of the four boys, the two of them were the closest in age, him being just a few months younger that Quin. He had loaned the lioness the jacket about two years ago and, while she had had every intention of returning it , she had just never gotten around it it. It was doubtful the teen even remembered that she had it. Part of Quin hoped he never asked for it back. Despite the fact that it had long since lost the smell of her aunt’s house, it was nice to have a little something that reminded her of home.

When the other student asked if she planned to continue on, she shrugged then raised her wrist to check on her watch. Technically she still had time, though it occurred to her that at some point during the day she would have to make some time to set up for her first club meeting. A small smile played at her lips as she thought about it. The fact that it had finally been approved pleased her. She had received a fair amount of support from professors and students alike, hopefully that support would turn into members. Not only would it look good on applications and resumes in the future, if her and her father were able to figure out a way to translate her time at Hogwarts into a way that muggles understand, but it was something she felt fair strong about.

Deciding she would just take a short lunch, the girl nodded. “I was gonna head back in, but I guess I have time.” Even if Quin headed in now, she doubted she would have time to drag all her goodies and things from her tower to the room she planned on using. Besides, she didn’t want people messing with her decorations and food before the meeting and, seeing as she was not exempt from classes, she couldn’t stand in the room all day and keep people out. “I’m Quin, by the way. I’ve seen you around before, I think. Zerner, right?” As she spoke, she extended a hand to offer the boy a handshake.
